West Ham remain hopeful they can strike another loan deal for Lingard from Utd

West Ham remain hopeful they could still strike another deal with Manchester United for Jesse Lingard after fresh discussions on Sunday evening.

Cristiano Ronaldo's arrival at Old Trafford has put extra pressure on places at United and Lingard recognises opportunities of regular game time will be limited.

West Ham are pressing ahead with a £25million deal for CSKA Moscow's Nikola Vlasic and, after the addition of Kurt Zouma from Chelsea for £30m, that would be their transfer budget spent.

However, they are now exploring whether a move for Lingard can be revived.

Ideally, that would be another loan but the 28-year-old only has one year left on his contract. United would need to extend his contract before agreeing to another temporary move so as to protect their asset.

Manager David Moyes has made it clear to Lingard and West Ham that he wants the England international to return and hopes that would send a message to the rest of his squad that he is ambitious for his side to kick on.

Moyes has taken greater control of West Ham's signings this summer and believes he is adding good characters and quality in the shape of Zouma and Vlasic.

Should he be able to bring in Lingard and another defensive loan it will give him a squad capable of replicating last year's sixth-placed Premier League finish.

Manchester United are understanding of Lingard's position following Ronaldo's arrival and are also considering loan offers for winger Daniel James.

However Amad Diallo's loan to Feyenoord is off after he picked up a muscle injury in training.

Ronaldo had his medical over the weekend and has agreed a two-year contract with an option for a third year. He is due to make his first appearance against Newcastle United on September 11 if all goes to plan.
