Arsenal-owned defender William Saliba continues to go from strength to strength in France, having now received his first international call-up.
Saliba is currently in the home stretch of a season-long loan at Marseille from parent club Arsenal.
The French defender initially made the move to Arsenal in 2019, when the Premier League side signed him from Saint-Etienne for €30 million.
REVEALED: The most valuable players in the world
However, despite joining the club over two years ago, Saliba hasn’t made a single first-team appearance for Mikel Arteta’s side and has instead been loaned out to three clubs in that time. He has also hit out at Arsenal’s treatment of him numerous times.
Just over a year after joining Arsenal, Saliba’s transfer value plummeted to just €8.2m by January 2021. This was after he didn’t play a single game in the first half of the 2020-21 season at Arsenal.
His loan to Nice in the second half of last season and then to Marseille for the entirety of this campaign has seen his transfer value almost double in just over a year.
FootballTransfers currently values Saliba at €14.5m.
This value is reached by using an algorithm that uses hundreds of in-game data points to gain an accurate assessment of his performance and, therefore, value on a match-by-match basis. It also takes into account such as contract length, age and status of the club he is playing for.
This season, Saliba has gone from strength to strength in Jorge Sampaoli’s Marseille side making 40 appearances and being a virtual ever-present.
This culminated in Saliba earning his first international call up for France this week.
The 20-year-old was summoned by manager Didier Deschamps following an injury to Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard.
Saliba’s value would be even higher were his contract at Arsenal not expiring in 2024.
His future at the Emirates remains bleak due to his difficult relationship with manager Mikel Arteta, and the form of Ben White and Gabriel.
It will be difficult for Marseille to be able to afford to sign Saliba permanently but this is a player whose value will surely rise much higher once we finds a new home for good.

He’s definitely a very talented player, but how will he come into this Arsenal side with Gab and Ben doing so well? It will stymie his development if we bring him back now…Also, it is questionable whether he may continue his form in the premier league, it’s the most competitive league.

Why can’t Inter spend some money on this young talent and a very promising one for the future. Remember he’s only 20 years old. Can one imagine the length of service this player will give to the rightist club.
