The best of the Premier League versus the best of La Liga versus the best of Serie A versus the best of the Bundesliga. Who would win? (All tests based on the Football Manager simulation)
It's a classic debate, and Sportsmail has attempted to provide an answer. The reporters, based in turn in England, Italy, Germany and Spain, have picked a dream team to represent that country's league.
Selected Premier League dream team has a 4-3-3 formation - while Serie A XI is 3-5-2
The La Liga team is lined up 4-3-3 (left) but the Bundesliga XI has a 4-4-2 diamond midfield
Now, finally, we've sent them all into battle using the finest technology available to us – Football Manager. The teams face off in a round-robin tournament, with the top two progressing to a final to decide which league really does boast the best players of all.
The rules are simple. Each team plays each other once with the usual points being awarded for a win, loss or draw. Goal difference is the decider if two teams finish on the same points. The teams in first and second then compete in a final to decide the winner of Sportsmail's All-Star League.
But that's enough admin. It's time for kick-off...
ROUND ONE OF GAMES
Premier League All-Stars 4-0 La Liga All-Stars
Mohamed Salah scored the first goal of the All-Star League as he latched onto a lovely lofted through-ball by Eden Hazard on the right. Salah got in behind the last line of the La Liga defence and stuck the ball in low past Marc-Andre ter Stegen in the ninth minute.
The Premier League were well on top. Hazard and Salah spurned chances but then minutes later Virgil van Dijk nodded home from a corner after John Stones flicked it on at the near post.
Harry Kane also hit the bar with a back-post header before Salah, struggling with a knock, got his second. Again he found space on the right. Again, he came inside. This time the ball slammed against the post before he converted the rebound.
Salah would go off early in the second half, but not before stinging the palms of Ter Stegen with a run and shot. The German also had to tip over a free-kick from Kevin De Bruyne.
But he could do nothing about Kane's 71st-minute header. There was neat interchange between the England man and David Silva on the right before Silva played a lofted ball up to the back post. Kane simply had to nod home, which he did with ease.
Bundesliga All-Stars 0-1 Serie A All-Stars
A tense opening to the game was blown apart by Cristiano Ronaldo's sensational long-range strike. The Bundesliga were on the attack only to lose the ball on the edge of the area. Serie A broke, Leonardo Spinazzola getting the attack underway. Eventually Mauro Icardi played it inside to Ronaldo, who took a touch before curling it into the top left corner.
Substitute Arjen Robben nearly responded for the Bundesliga with a sublime individual effort in the early part of the second half. He picked up the ball wide on the right, surprisingly cut inside and then charged at goal. His effort, launched from the edge of the box, was only just wide of Gianluigi Donnarumma's post.
But Serie A saw out the game to pick up their first three points.
ROUND TWO OF GAMES
La Liga All-Stars 2-0 Bundesliga All-Stars
A dire opening 25 minutes was finally punctuated by Diego Godin. The defender met a chipped Gareth Bale cross into the box after a corner broke down to head home and give his side the lead.
That was about as good as the first-half action got, although Gareth Bale did come close to a goal himself after finding space in the box. He could only fire straight at Manuel Neuer.
Not that the early stages of the second half were much better. Long-range efforts from Lionel Messi and Ivan Rakitic, both of which went wide, were the all the game saw until the 70th minute.
Then La Liga clicked. They worked the ball well to Luis Suarez on the edge of the box. He backheeled it into Bale, who, in space, fired into Neuer's net.
Serie A All-Stars 3-1 Premier League All-Stars
A clash between the early pace-setters in the All-Star League. The Serie A XI nearly opened the scoring after just five minutes, with David de Gea having to react well to an Icardi shot in the box.
And it was that man who broke the deadlock after 13 minutes, latching onto the end of a whipped cross from Sime Vrsaljko before prodding past De Gea.
Hazard did come close to levelling the game after the ball fell to him on the edge of the box. Swinging a right boot at it, he only just sent it over the bar.
But Icardi was on form, and reacted well again after a Spinazzola cross to finish and double the lead before half-time.
Not that they made it to the break two ahead. Salah was carrying a knock from the first game yet showed his goalscoring prowess on the right to finish past Donnarumma.
The Premier League kept up the pressure, despite losing Hazard to an injury. Kane somehow missed from three yards after being teed up by Salah. Van Dijk had a header blocked at the back post. And Donnarumma pulled off a sensational save from Kane.
But the points were eventually wrapped up after Ronaldo leapt up at the back post to meet a cross from substitute Gonzalo Higuain. His header was perfectly placed and left De Gea with his head in his hands.
ROUND THREE OF GAMES
Premier League All-Stars 3-0 Bundesliga All-Stars
An injury crisis meant Hazard had to be replaced by Roberto Firmino on the left, while Sergio Aguero, who had a cameo role against Serie A, was out of the squad entirely with concussion.
Not that that held the Premier League All-Stars back. They had six shots in the opening 15 minutes and Kane came nearest, forcing a good save from Neuer from close range. The hosts soon lost Silva, who pulled a hamstring.
It took until after half-time for the Premier League to break the deadlock, and it was that man Salah again. The Egyptian burst onto a through ball in the area before firing low and hard through Neuer into the back of the net.
Knowing that goal difference could be key, the hosts kept pushing.
Eventually they found a second after Kyle Walker whipped in a cross from deep. It reached Firmino, who calmly fired home.
A third then came from an unlikely source as N'Golo Kante volleyed in a knockdown from a corner to wrap up the win.
Serie A All-Stars 3-1 La Liga All-Stars
La Liga knew they needed goals and went for it from the off, with Messi whistling a strike past the post after just a minute.
And Godin came close to forcing the first goal again as a prod towards goal from a corner kick ended up bouncing back off the crossbar of Donnarumma's net.
But a colossal blow soon came for La Liga as Icardi fed the ball to Miralem Pjanic on the edge of the box. He took two touches to settle himself before firing past Ter Stegen to put Serie A ahead.
By the end of the half it was all Serie A, Paulo Dybala and Radja Nainggolan both coming close to adding a second.
The break clearly did not provide the inspiration La Liga needed, as Icardi doubled Serie A's lead with a close range header just 24 seconds after the restart.
Godin soon gave La Liga hopes of a comeback, firing in a flicked-on corner. His defensive partner dashed those dreams as Gerard Pique took out Icardi in the box while chasing a ball over the top, giving away a penalty.
Ronaldo was unsurprisingly accurate from the spot, firing past his former Barcelona rival Ter Stegen to ensure top spot went to Serie A.
Final - Serie A All-Stars vs Premier League All-Stars
The Premier League were boosted by the return of Hazard to the bench, although Silva and Aguero remained unavailable with their respective knocks. Serie A could still call on a full complement of players.
Ronaldo came close in the opening 20 minutes. He found a pocket of space before working the ball onto his right. A 30-yard strike just flew wide of De Gea's net.
He then blocked a Dembele shot well at the other end before seeing De Gea stop a shot from inside the box.
Not that Ronaldo would be deterred. When the Premier League failed to clear a corner from Pjanic, he swung his left foot at the ball and fired it into the bottom corner.
Just before half-time there was a further blow for the Premier League as Kane had to leave the pitch due to a dislocated jaw. Hazard, half-fit, was thrown on in his place, with Firmino moved into a role as the sole striker.
And that enforced change worked. After Serie A lost their concentration from a corner, it was Firmino who popped up to slam the ball into the net and level the final.
It was soon all Premier League. Walker came close, seeing a shot deflected into the side netting after an exceptional passing move released him into space on the right side of the box.
De Bruyne whipped in the subsequent corner. Stones made a dash to the near post and leapt, using the back of his head to flick it past the stranded Donnarumma.
There was a hearts-in-mouth moment for the Premier League as Icardi, released into space, volleyed over the bar.
Ultimately there was only one man to secure the win. Hazard burst down the left and stood the ball up to the back post. Salah ghosted in and powered a header into the back of the net, the Egyptian king rightfully taking a seat on the All-Star throne for the Premier League.
Final score - Premier League All-Stars 3-1 Serie A All-Stars

Epl only good at boasting. They say their league is balanced but never say every team is average. In the real world UCL, it's La Liga team that takes home the cup every time

Everyone is saying la liga will win because they’ve been dominating ucl...well that’s true. La liga dominates ucl because of the quality of opposition to the top teams. Barca/Madrid can afford to rest key players in la liga matches, or play tactics that release pressure from such players so that such players will be fit for ucl matches. In epl however, every match can be a title decider, an no opposition is taken lightly. So in every single match, all key players and tactics are deployed.
