Manchester United's pursuit of Hakan Calhanoglu does not make much sense considering their current options.
The Red Devils have been linked with a move for the AC Milan star - whose contract expires next summer.
Calhanoglu has spent three years at the San Siro but his future is now uncertain.
And according to the Manchester Evening News, the Turkey international is on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's radar.
More specifically, Ed Woodward's, perhaps - who has been eyeing the midfielder for a number of years.
Over the years, there have been reports that the ex-Bayer Leverkusen ace could be on his way to Old Trafford.
And to bait United in is the fact he would cost the club nothing.
Reportedly, a five-year contract is being prepped for the playmaker - who is also able to play on the left-wing.
But do the Red Devils really need another No. 10?
They already have the perfect man for the job in the shape of Bruno Fernandes, who joined in January and became an instant success.
Through his goals and assists, he catapulted United to a Champions League spot and has seen them continue that success this year.
And over the summer, Solskjaer also forked £40m out on Donny van de Beek.
The Dutchman is able to play anywhere in midfield, whether that be as a defensive or attacking one.
He may not be fully integrated in the first-team yet but his snippets of play so far have suggested he could be integral to the squad soon.
So what would signing Calhanoglu achieve, except filling up another position in the squad.
Woodward has been happy to do deals for freebies in the past, with mixed success.
Alexis Sanchez can be chalked down as a disastrous purchase, whose wages combined with his shoddy performances could put him up there with one of the biggest United flops of all time.
Whereas Zlatan Ibrahimovic was a roaring success in his first year, though his second season was not as good but that can be put down a nasty injury sustained towards the end of the campaign.
But the arrival of Calhanoglu will only further bloat the squad when Solskjaer has other priorities such as a right-winger and a centre-back.
