Manchester United could persevere with a back three formation after its relative success in the 1-1 draw with Liverpool.
United had not played a defensive trident since the Premier League loss at Wolves on March 2 but defended reasonably solidly until Adam Lallana slipped past Rojo and Ashley Young at the far post to steer in Andy Robertson's 85th-minute cross and secure a point for Liverpool.
The back three was guarded by midfielders Scott McTominay and Fred and flanked by wing-backs Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Young, with Andreas Pereira tasked with pressing high through the middle to support forwards Daniel James and Marcus Rashford. James crossed for Rashford's opener in the 36th minute.
Solskjaer was unable to confirm the severity of Tuanzebe's injury or whether the 21-year-old would be available for the Europa League group game against Partizan Belgarde.
"It can develop into something, because we have the players to play three at the back," Solskjaer said of the back three. "And it allows more width in the team, with what we've had.
"Of course it's a risk playing three at the back against their front three, it's a great front three, to be fair to them. But we did it to create chances ourselves, I thought Marcus, Dan, the goal was a perfect example of how we wanted the game to pan out."
Phil Jones was named on the bench in the wake of Tuanzebe's withdrawal and long-term absentee Eric Bailly is the sixth central defensive option, when fit. Lindelof was culpable for the first-half goal Sadio Mane had disallowed by the Video Assistant Referee.
