Arsenal will be without captain Martin Odegaard for their heavyweight Premier League showdown at home against Manchester City on Sunday. The good news for manager Mikel Arteta is that key winger Bukayo Saka has returned to the matchday squad.
Odegaard struggles to stay fit
Odegaard has had a frustrating start to the season, failing to complete 90 minutes since Arsenal’s opening game at Manchester United on August 17. The former Real Madrid midfielder was substituted in the first half of the victory over Leeds United the following weekend due to a shoulder injury, which has continued to bother him.
The Norwegian only appeared briefly off the bench in the defeat to Liverpool on August 31 and was replaced after just 18 minutes in last weekend’s win over Nottingham Forest, again because of the shoulder issue. He also did not feature in the Champions League victory against Athletic Club in midweek. Although he has stepped up training, Arteta will not risk him against City.
Saka back from hamstring injury
Arsenal welcome Saka back to the squad after a recent hamstring injury that sidelined him for three games. The 24-year-old England international also sustained the injury against Leeds on August 23.
Saka will hope to make a decisive return from the bench against City at the Emirates Stadium.

Odegaard is surplus to requirement. ARSENAL spent most of the summer transfer window signing new players that were not required. Sitting on the bench will be a normal life for some players.
