Highly-rated young midfielder Xaver Schlager has admitted he dreams of playing for Arsenal - less than a month after completing a €15m move to Wolfsburg.
Schlager, 21, has been snapped up by the Bundesliga club from RB Salzburg, where he established himself as a top young prospect.
But he insists the move is not his end goal - as he revealed his dream is to one day play for boyhood club Arsenal.
The 11-cap Austria international has penned a deal until 2023 with Wolfsburg but clearly has one eye on impressing to seal a move to north London to test himself in the Premier League.
"As a boy in Austria, you already start dreaming of making it abroad at the age of seven. The league just isn't that attractive," Schlager told Kicker.
"I haven't reached my final goal yet, now the next goal is coming.
"I've been a fan of Arsenal since I was a child.
"That's my dream club, and it's my dream to get to play there."
Schlager could also meet Arsenal in the Europa League, a competition he reached the semi-finals of with Salzburg in 2018.
After finishing sixth in the German top flight last season, Wolfsburg will enter the competition in the group stages, as will Arsenal after their defeat in last year's final saw them miss out on a Champions League return.

Wow,, good to see that Gunners can still attract decent players without raising a finger or make mention of such a player!!
Arsenal is still the one and only "Dream Team" for many young talents out there

I don't care anymore but we're probably going to sign him next season. Consider this a loan.

He had a low release clause this summer and I'm a little surprised he went to Wolfsburg with supposed interest from mid table PL clubs and Leipzig. But Wolfsburg have bought well this summer and it's a move that still allows him to move for not such a demanding fee that PL clubs would ask if he joined one. He's a robust 8 who's good at receiving play on the turn to carry the ball up the pitch with an underrated ability to find the ball in behind. He's pretty similar to Wijnaldum in his role imo. Palacios, Schlager, and Ceballos were my top 3 for the 8/10 role.

I can't think of a single player who called Arsenal their dream club actually join the club

He was quite good at Salzburg. I don't know enough about him, but it will be interesting to see how he develops in the Bundesliga.

If he really wants to come here, whatever he does he should make sure not to sign any contract extensions.
