Referee Mike Dean showed his 100th red card as 10-man Manchester United lost 2-1 at Wolves in the Premier League.
Match Report
Ashley Young was sent off as Manchester United's Champions League qualification hopes were dented by a 2-1 Premier League defeat at Wolves on Tuesday.
United would have moved up to third in the table, ahead of Arsenal and Tottenham, with victory at Molineux but Nuno Espirito Santo's side came from behind to win thanks to a Chris Smalling own goal.
Scott McTominay's first Manchester United goal put his side ahead but Diogo Jota, who scored as Wolves knocked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men out of the FA Cup last month, levelled.
Young's dismissal, the 100th of Mike Dean's Premier League career, came for a foul on Jota and in the 77th minute Smalling bundled the ball into his own net to ensure United have now lost three of their last four matches in all competitions.

13' GOAL! Wolves 0-1 Man Utd (McTominay)
MCTOMINAY PUTS UNITED AHEAD! McTominay is given a bit of space on his right from 25 yards. He takes a touch, gets the ball out from under his feet and fires a driven right-footed shot into the bottom left corner.
25' GOAL! Wolves 1-1 Man Utd (Jota)
GOAAAL! JOTA MAKES IT 1-1! United play themselves into trouble as they pass out from the back. Fred loses the ball and Jimenez measures a perfect throughball to Jota behind the defence. Jota breaks the offside trap and slides a right-footed shot past De Gea.
46' CLOSE! Lukaku's shot wide out
Just wide! Pogba and Lukaku exchange passes on the edge of the area. The ball eventually falls to the Belgian on his right and he drags his shot just wide of the left post.
57' Second Yellow Card! Young sent off
ASHLEY YOUNG IS SENT OFF! Wolves press high and win the ball off United near the halfway line. Young lunges in on Jota and catches him on the inside of his shin with his studs. Mike Dean wastes no time showing him a second yellow card and United are down to 10.
77' OWN GOAL! Wolves 2-1 Man Utd (Smalling)
WOLVES GO 2-1 UP! What a bizarre goal. Jimenez wins the header from Moutinho’s right-footed cross. Dendoncker causes mayhem with his presence as the ball bounces in the six-yard box. Smalling got the final touch though and it will go down as an own goal.

am not surprised ..i wanted utd to wait for the end of the season to give ole the contract or maybe go in for poch or allegri or someone else. i also predicted that utd will start losing because ole (no disrespect) does nothing tactically and that he was on that winning streak because he brought this spark. and spark is not forever so yes m utd will start to lose. Anyway i won my bet 2-1 for wolves . going to help myself to a fkn pizza. utd is. just a useless team (all disrespect)🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 all you mancs come out nowww

It's another disappointing performance from Man Utd in the hands of Wolves after the March 16 elimination from FA Cub. But for the quick response of De Gea, Smalling would have scored a brace own goal. From the recent turn of things, Man Utd's top 4 race is getting bleak. How do you expect to overpower the top notch performance of Barcelona in UCL round of 8 with this recent shambolic outings?

United tried but it wasn't their night. Of course you can't take away anything from Wolves: once again as we've seen them do many times this season, they were well organised and disciplined in defence. As hosts they weren't at all aggressive even after United were reduced to 10 men and this is part of their game, because if they had been over ambitious going forward they might have ended up losing. Not good for United's quest for a top four finish.

OLE SHOULD HAVE REMAINED AN INTERIM MANAGER TILL THE END OF THE SEASON. AT LEAST MAN UTD HAD A CHANCE OF A TOP FOUR FINISH DURING THAT PERIOD

I think our club has too many players who are not Manchester United quality and are demanding wages for players who are consistent in every game out there. My club today has disappointed me and they really need to flush out these players letting us down so that we get quality players and not media frenzy players

We may be quick to condemn United, but let's not forget that Wolves before this game had already drawn 10 points from the big 6. Even at the Emirates Arsenal were only lucky to get a draw as hosts. They've beaten Tottenham and Chelsea as well. The way this Wolves are organised and disciplined coupled with the determination we say them play with they can pluck points from any team including Liverpool and Manchester City. We'll see what Arsenal can do when they visit Wolves.

Just remove 3 from McTominay's #39 and make him top 9 . Can't comprehend what Lingard was doing on the pitch for 90mins , should have been subbed in place of Lukaku . Solskjaer should have remained caretaker, team played better when he was caretaker .

ole should have revised his team from the poor run of FA cup challenge against wolves or he just fears that challenge with wolves cause the squad selection of today was fully defensive with only lukaku and lingard as attackers what a lose can I say it was too early to hand him a contract!!!! coz his just struggling to win games like mou?

Is all Ole fault, yes Mctominay scored but i have never see him played in the position OGS played him today. I don't know why Lingard finish the game and Lukaku did not when the team needed to score, the only striker on the field of play was sub. I don't know why Matic did not play. OGS got the job and then feel relaxed to gamble as it pleases him. the team set up was bad, He should have sub Fred earlier, put Pereira up front to support Lukaku then McTominay back to his normal Position along side Pogba in the midfield . I blame no one but the coach he neglected Wolves despite knowing the record of Wolves against the big team

OGS ls still a baby coach, young has been playing rubbish from the beginning of the match. And he is already on yellow card. I expected OGS to substitute him even before the end of first half. Every good coach will replace young with Martial, then switch Dalot to right back. And switch lingard to the right flank then Martial his normal left. why Pogba should have left the game and bring in perrera. But OGS. Lack Technic. He is just a care taker. He can’t coach team like United. Because he is blind. He can’t read game.

That's what happens wen u r not clinical with chances..Wolves always stick to their game plan they will let you play and have fun but only wait for one or two chances and if you haven't yet scored enough you are gone...and i don't know why Lingard finished the game

I don't get why Utd fans are now disregarding OLE, like how did you expect him to win against the Mighty Wolves lol. Seriously jokes aside, I sincerely think that Solskjaer is just a great coach, the only thing that he needs at the moment is to revamp his squad for next season, but not just that, he also needs to ship them deadwoods out of Utd otherwise they'll keep lagging Utd

Man United shouldn't have given permanent job to Ole, see now he is able to sleep while on duty.... Anyway congratulations to Arsenal for making it to top 4

if only they had waited till the end of the season appointing him on a permanent job, they'll be performing best coz now it seems to me as if they were playing for OGS to get the job and not for top four finish.

It's the first time Wolves have won consecutive games against Manchester United in all competitions since 1980 and leaves Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's team in fifth place and out of the Champions League places. Wolves impressive return to the Premier League continues as they solidified their hold on seventh place with a haul of 47 points through 32 matches.

Some United players are underperforming..If they are doing it for a new contract or to go to other teams hell with them..Just play the kids who played against PSG and put them in stands for remaining matches

When Ole and United were enjoying the winning streak, everyone including pundits were like "give him the contract already" now ManU are beginning to loose few matches, everyone has turned against him suddenly and the pundits will soon start their criticism just as they did to his predecessors. Such is life, people forget too quickly your good deeds but hold strongly onto you shortcomings.

its always bad to field an injured player. give him a couple of games on the bench after recovery. its about time we let go Smalling and Jones. our defence will always be weak with this two. Dalot should be our first choice right back by now not the aged Young..

It's amazing how people are so quick to condemn others. OGS is by far the best coach in the EPL since he took over Man Utd, i say so and am an Arsenal fan. Man Utd lose to Wolves so what, are they out of the race? If you ask me, the race just becomes even more interesting. Is Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham damn sure of being in the top 4? This question will be better answered on the last day of the league, any thing is possible. My heart goes out to Man Utd, OGS is building and it takes time. Show him your support and stay strong, respect. 👍

United played like amateurs last night. There was no movement upfront and the passing was sloppy save for Fred, who's distribution was perfect, save for that blunder leading to the Wolves' first goal. Scott had a couple of chances after that first goal for United but that was all he did for the whole game. Our tackling, movement off the ball and passing leaves a lot to be desired. The players look tired on the field and that desire has been missing lately. Even the 3 points against Watford were undeserved. C'mon Ole, what's happening?

How on earth can you have 6 English players in your starting 11 and expect good results or good football, amazingly with 4 in your defence... City and Liverpool that are topping the table, how many English players do you see starting their matches! The most annoying thing is having Young, Smalling, Jones and Shaw in your defence! It's a hard truth, but the only English players that should be in your squad should be Shaw and Rashford... Even Rashford should be coming from the bench!
