Wolves have completed the signing of the Jose Sa from Olympiacos for £6.8m, with the Portuguese goalkeeper putting pen to paper on a five-year deal.

The West Midlands side had been heavily linked with the 28-year-old as a replacement for Rui Patricio, amid speculation of the No 1 keeper joining Jose Mourinho in Roma.

Patricio, 33, sealed a £9.8m switch to the Italian capital this week and Wolves have swiftly moved to secure Olympiacos stopper Sa, who played 124 times for the Greeks but is yet to receive his first cap for his country.

Sa will wear the No 1 jersey, after Patricio wore the No 11 out of respect for former stopper Carl Ikeme, who retired from football in 2018 after contracting leukemia. The Englishman tweeted his full support for Sa taking the No 1 shirt.

Former Porto keeper Sa is new boss Bruno Lage's fourth signing of the summer, having already landed Colombian defender Yerson Mosquera for £4.5m, French full-back Rayan Ait-Nouri for £10m, and Barcelona forward Francisco Trincao on loan.

According to The Athletic, Wolves are also in the market for a new central midfielder and central defender. The Premier League side have opted not to take up their £20m option to buy Porto youngster Vitinha.

Elsewhere, Wolves have agreed a new four year contract with defender Dion Sanderson after rejecting offers from Newcastle and Sunderland and are to send him to Birmingham City on loan for the season.

Sanderson, 21, has enjoyed hugely successful loan spells with the Black Cats and Cardiff City.
