Wolves' Championship-winning tally of 99 points was highly impressive, but few experts believed they could compete with the Premier League elite during their first season back in the top flight.

Instead, Wolves have set about mauling the Big Six this season, and are within touching distance of a seventh-place finish.

They have accumulated six wins against the country's most decorated clubs this season, including FA Cup victories over Liverpool and Manchester United.

Wanderers claimed their latest scalp on Wednesday evening with an emphatic 3-1 win over Arsenal at Molineux.

Ruben Neves gave the hosts the lead with a stunning free-kick from 25 yards before wing-back Matt Doherty headed in a second.

Diogo Jota capitalised on slipshod Arsenal defending to net a third goal in first-half stoppage time, and Sokratis headed in a consolation goal with ten minutes remaining.

The result represented Wolves' first win since their disastrous FA Cup semi-final defeat by Watford at Wembley, and have now amassed 16 points against the Big Six this season, losing just three of 11 league matches.

Nuno Espirito Santo's men played their first Big Six game against reigning champions Manchester City in August and were held to a 1-1 draw after Willy Boly had given the hosts the lead.

Notably, the Old Gold's three other league wins came against Chelsea and Tottenham in December and Man United in April.

Wolves are likely to become the first Premier League side to finish in the top eight in their first season after promotion since Reading in 2006-07.

Six clubs have achieved the feat since the inception of the Premier League in 1992-93.
