Wolves have joined the race to sign highly-rated Red Bull Salzburg star Hwang Hee-chan as Premier League clubs circle Red Bull Salzburg after their impressive showing in the Champions League.

Despite failing to dislodge Napoli and Liverpool from the top two spots, Salzburg dazzled in the group stage, with Erling Haaland, Takumi Minamino and Hwang all impressing for the Austrian side.

And the performances of South Korea international Hwang have not escaped the attention of Nuno Espirito Santo, who is looking to bolster his squad as they look to keep up their impressive start to the season.

According to the Telegraph, Wolves sporting director Kevin Thelwell was in Austria on Tuesday to cast his eye on Hwang during Salzburg's 2-0 defeat to Liverpool, while other scouts have been dispatched to have a look at the 23-year-old this season.

Any move for the attacker is likely to be made in the summer, however the west midlands club may look to sign Hwang in January and loan him back to Salzburg for the remainder of the season.

Wolves desperately need to add to their squad as their pursuits in the Premier League and on the continent intensify. Nuno's side are defying the odds as they sit in sixth in the league while they have qualified for the knockout stages of the Europa League.

Raul Jimenez, Diogo Jota and Adama Traore have carried the bulk of the workload up front, and Nuno is looking to add fresh legs in a bid to rotate his squad.

Wolves will face competition from Premier League rivals to secure the signature of Hwang, though. Forty scouts were sent to the Champions League game on Tuesday with clubs ready to cherry pick Salzburg's strongest talent.

The 23-year-old is likely to cost between Β£16million and Β£21million, while it is believed he has a release clause.

Wolves are also in the market for a centre back, with Willy Boly out for a lengthy spell with an ankle knock while Jesus Vallejo has underwhelmed since joining from Real Madrid on loan.
