Wolves' owners are prepared to fight tooth and nail to keep boss Nuno Espirito Santo as Arsenal continue to have him as a leading candidate to become their next manager.

Fosun, the Chinese conglomerate who own Wolves, hired Nuno in 2017 and have watched the Portuguese lead them out of the Championship and turn them into an established Premier League outfit.

As Sportsmail revealed on Thursday, Wolves players are growing increasingly concerned that Nuno's time at the club may be coming to an end. But the club would fight hard to keep Nuno, whose £3m-a-year contract expires at the end of next season, and could make argument for being one of the best managers in their history. As happy is Nuno is at Wolves, there is an understanding that should an elite club approach, he may wish to listen to what they have to say.

If they lost Nuno, Wolves would almost certainly see their coaching team decimated. Assistant head coach Rui Pedro Silva, first team coach Julio Figueroa, assistant first-team coach Joao Lapa, goalkeeping coach Rui Barbosa and fitness coach Antonio Dias would all follow him out of Molineux.

A significant compensation sum notwithstanding, Wolves could ill afford a 'brain drain' on this level, especially in the middle of the season.

Wolves bosses know that players would consider their futures, too. Nuno is hugely popular among them, and enjoys the trust of key members of the squad.. Nuno's agent, Jorge Mendes, also manages the affairs of some of Wolves' most important players, like goalkeeper Rui Patricio, midfielders Joao Moutinho and Ruben Neves, and forwards Raul Jimenez and Diogo Jota
