Wolverhampton Wanderers reportedly want to sign former West Brom striker Salomon Randon as cover while they wait for Raul Jimenez to recover from a fractured skull.

Mexican striker Jimenez picked up the horrific head injury during Wolves' victory at Arsenal last month following a clash of heads with Gunners defender David Luiz.

The 29-year-old is out of hospital following surgery and has been spotted at the Wolves training ground in the last few days but is not expected to return to action anytime soon.

And according to The Sun, Nuno Espirito Santo is lining up Venezuelan striker Rondon, who currently plays for Chinese club Dalian Professional, as a short-term replacement for Jimenez.

The 31-year-old striker has been playing in China since the summer of 2019 and has scored nine goals in 16 matches so far this season.

Rondon last played in England during a loan spell at Newcastle in the 2018-19 campaign where he scored 11 league goals and was named as the Magpies' Player of the Season - the first striker to receive the award since Alan Shearer in 2003.

Before the year-long stint at St James' Park, Rondon spent three seasons at West Brom, scoring 28 goals in 120 appearances in all competitions for the Baggies.

A week after fracturing his skull on November 29, Wolves confirmed that Jimenez had been released from hospital and returned home.

Earlier this week, the Mexican forward was pictured smiling among his team-mates as he made a return to the Premier League club's training ground but did not get involved in a squad session.

Jimenez is expected to miss most the of the season while he recovers from the injury, with the player's father claiming he is 'highly motivated' to return to the pitch as soon as possible.

The striker is also expected to be in the stands when Wolves host Chelsea at Molineux on Tuesday night in the Premier League.

For now, a large 45 x 11 banner has been placed in the Steve Bull Stand as a tribute to the forward.

Jimenez commented on the banner via social media this week, saying: 'Amazing! I am very grateful to all the people who have been supporting me during this process.

'To my fans, to my teammates, to all who have sent their love, it means everything to me and my family. Thank you very much!'
