Khadija Shaw's late goal ensured Manchester City took full advantage of Chelsea's slip-up to move nine points clear in the Women's Super League.
Chelsea went down 2-0 to Arsenal on Saturday, though it looked as though City would fail to take their chance to put even more distance between themselves and the defending champions as they were frustrated by London City Lionesses on Sunday.
However, Shaw got onto a loose ball to lash home in the 86th minute, securing a 2-1 win for City after Freya Godfrey had cancelled out Kerolin's early opener.
Isobel Goodwin hit the woodwork twice for London City, who are now winless in four WSL matches.
Liverpool finally claimed their first league win of the season as they beat Tottenham 2-0 at home.
The Reds have failed to have a single shot on target in more games than any other side in the WSL this season (two), but they changed that tune by having five on frame, albeit they had to wait until second-half stoppage time for substitute Mia Enderby to score twice.
Bottom-place Liverpool are just a point behind West Ham, who beat fellow strugglers Leicester City 2-1.
Manchester United, meanwhile, returned to winning ways with a 4-1 thrashing of Aston Villa.
Julia Zigiotti Olme put United ahead before Kirsty Hanson swiftly equalised, but the Red Devils took control with three goals in the space of eight second-half minutes, with Elisabeth Terland, Jessica Park and Hanna Lundkvist on target.
Data Debrief: City join Chelsea in WSL record books
City have now won their last 12 top-flight matches, and are just the second team, after Chelsea last season, to win 12 of their opening 13 games of a WSL campaign.
They left it late, and there was little to separate them from London City in terms of chances. The Lionesses created opportunities worth 1.7 expected goals, while City finished with 1.99 xG.
As she so often is, Shaw was decisive for City. She had four shots (second only to Vivianne Miedema's five) and recorded a game-high nine touches in the opponent's box.
