Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has arrived at court to face a drink drive charge after police say he twice the drink drive limit while behind the wheel of his £65,000 Porsche.

The 31-year-old goalkeeper, of East Finchley, north London, was charged with drink driving and bailed following a routine patrol stop in the early hours of August 24.

The France international, who led his team to World Cup glory in Russia, was stopped in Gloucester Place, Marylebone, central London, Scotland Yard said.

The shot stopper was allegedly spotted  swerving between traffic lanes on Gloucester Place, Marylebone on August 24 at 2am.

The 31-year-old father of two is accused of driving the four-litre sports car with 80 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

The Spurs and France captain spent a night in a cell at Charing Cross police station after failing a breath test just a month after claiming football's most coveted prize.

Today the footballer was met by a scrum of photographers who surrounded the Frenchman as he walked inside Westminster Magistrates' Court.

Several photographers tripped and ended up sprawled on the ground.

He arrived at court wearing a blazer and shirt with no tie.

His club said the matter would be taken 'extremely seriously' and dealt with internally.

The case was due to be heard at Westminster Magistrates' Court in central London on Tuesday, but was moved and is now listed for Wednesday morning.

Lloris faces one charge of driving a motor vehicle when his alcohol level was above the limit.

If he pleads guilty, he faces an automatic driving ban and will likely be given a hefty fine.

Lloris was not picked to play for France in the recent United League of Nations games against Germany and Holland. He has signed a new £150,000 per deal with Spurs who are fifth in Premier League under manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Lloris has been with Tottenham since joining from Lyon in 2012, making 207 appearances in the Premier League and keeping 74 clean sheets.

He has grown to be regarded as one of the world's best goalkeepers during his time in England. Lloris has won more than 100 international caps and lifted the World Cup in July, after France beat Croatia 4-2 in the final.

He lives in an exclusive gated £5.9 mansion in Finchley, north London, with his childhood sweetheart Marine.
