Xabi Alonso is still revered at Anfield but he could soon help plot Liverpool's downfall.
The former Red could be in the running to replace Mikel Arteta as Manchester City assistant manager, according to a report by Goal.
And he's not the only man with Liverpool ties in the frame for the job.
Rodolfo Borrell coached Liverpool's U18s and reserve team during a five-year spell at Anfield. Having made his name at Barcelona, Borrell was brought to Kirkby by Rafa Benitez alongside Pep Segura.
He joined Man City as a technical director in 2014 before transitioning to become a first team coach under Guardiola.
Borrell has since assumed further responsibility following the departure of Arteta to Arsenal in December and is thought to be the front runner to take on the role of assistant manager full-time.
The 49-year-old is credited with helping City's defensive work, with former Liverpool coach Michael Beale outlining his qualities.
He said: "Rodolfo came from Barcelona with Olympiacos in between. He was the reserve team manager at the time I came in and he was a very good coach.
βHe was very good defensively, which isn't exactly what you expect of a former Barcelona coach. I think Guardiola credited him in his book for helping him learn a lot about pressing and counter-pressing. I found that fascinating.β
Should Guardiola decide to bring in new blood as his number two, Alonso is said to be another name in the frame. The 38-year-old has enjoyed an impressive start to life in management at his hometown club Real Sociedad.
Alonso was appointed in June 2019 and has led Sociedad to fifth place in Segunda Division B.The former Real Madrid and Bayern Munich midfielder remains close friends with Arteta and could be recommended for the role.
Alonso spent time at City's training facility in 2018 as he prepared for a life in management.
Guardiola is no stranger to handing inexperienced coaches an opportunity, having brought in an inexperienced Arteta in 2016 when he took charge of Man City.

No!!!! Wait for Xavi. All Barcelona fans will turn into Man City fans, because Barca games have become too predictable due to pathetic defence.
