Granit Xhaka's controversial yellow card during the closing stages of Arsenal's 4-1 victory over Leeds United is being investigated by the National Crime Agency in England.
This is because suspiciously high-stake bets were placed on him getting booked.
The Gunners' midfielder performed the typical trick of faking several times before taking a free-kick with the intention of exhausting the referee's patience and earning himself a yellow card.
As revealed by the Daily Mail, the Arsenal midfielder's action "is being investigated in an alleged criminal conspiracy involving the Albanian mafia and a former professional footballer who has been convicted of match-fixing".
It turns out that bets worth more than 60,000 euros were placed on the Arsenal midfielder being cautioned in the last ten minutes of the match.
The story was reportedly sparked by an investigation into former Swedish-Albanian footballer Alban Jusufi, who was convicted in Sweden of trying to pay a goalkeeper 182,000 pounds to let him win.
Xhaka is a player that has repeatedly caused controversy during his time at Arsenal but only for repeatedly receiving red cars for poor decision-making rather than anything criminal.
There has not been any official word from Arsenal about the investigation and whether the player's role in the squad for this season will be jeopardised whilst the investigation is ongoing.
