Zinedine Zidane 'rejects managerial offer from an AFCON giant'

Zinedine Zidane has reportedly turned down the chance to become the new manager of an African nation.

However, despite being flattered by the offer, the former France star elected to turn it down.

Zidane was approached after the nation in question suffered an early exit from the Africa Cup of Nations.

Algeria were knocked out of the Africa Cup of Nations after finishing bottom of Group D, with Belmadi subsequently being sacked.

As reported by L'Equipe, Zidane, who is of Algerian descent, was approached about the position after the departure of Djamel Belmadi.

After commencing their campaign with a 1-1 draw against Angola, Algeria subsequently drew 2-2 with Burkina Faso and were then beaten 1-0 by Mauritania.

Herve Renard, who currently manages the French women's team, and ex-Morocco boss Vahid Halilhodzic are also under consideration by Algeria.

Zidane hasn't managed since his second spell in charge of Real Madrid came to an end in 2021.

In early 2023, Zidane rejected an offer to coach the United States.

Undoubtedly one of the greatest players of all time, Zidane also achieved much success with Real as a coach.

Zidane won the Champions League in three consecutive seasons (2015-16, 2016-17 and 2017-18) as manager of Real, while he also won two LaLiga titles and lifted the Club World Cup twice.
