Álvarez: I apologise for my comments during the World Cup, I’d be angry too if I were a fan

After ending his goal drought in the Champions League in midweek, Álvarez scored the winner for Atlético Madrid in their league match against Deportivo La Coruña. The Argentine forward apologised to fans for comments he made during the World Cup.

A Message to the Fans

I want to apologize to our fans for the comments I made during the World Cup. I was wrong, both in how I expressed myself and in my timing. I understand people's anger. If I were a fan, I would be angry too, especially given how supportive and generous they had been toward me. I deeply value that bond. I also want to thank the team, who have stood by me throughout this period.

Player form

I feel very good. I want to thank all my teammates because they have always supported me. I’m working hard to improve, and over the last few games I’ve felt better both physically and on the ball. My goal is to help the team and perform at my best.

More applause than boos

The positive feeling you have in life is also reflected on the pitch. Although we are professional footballers, we are still affected by various factors off the pitch. I feel great and am ready to compete for every honor.

I hope I can turn things around through hard work and humility.
