AS Monaco began their UEFA Champions League campaign with a humbling defeat to Club Brugge in Belgium on Thursday evening (4-1). In a post-match press conference attended by Get French Football News, Adi Hutter apologised for the performance.

“It was not only a defeat. It was a heavy defeat. Congratulations to Club Brugge for the win, which they absolutely deserved,” began the Monaco manager.

He added, “Our appearance tonight was not of a Champions League level. We lost almost every battle on the pitch. We were not well organised […] in the first 30 minutes, they had easy chances to score, and I think that we were lucky with the 3-0 [at that point]. This appearance was not Monaco’s style. We also have to apologise to our fans; there were about 600 of them. We have to analyse it as quickly as possible, with our next game on Sunday (against FC Metz in Ligue 1).”
