‘Very stressful’ – Kane desperate to know his Ballon d’Or fate with his family still in the dark

HARRY KANE hopes to discover his Ballon d’Or fate early after a “stressful” wait for him and his family.

But organisers France Football insist that the winner is not informed before the night, although in 2024 it infamously leaked.

Real Madrid discovered ahead of time that Vinicius Junior had lost out to Rodri and boycotted the event.

Kane is in the dark, however, as to whether he has scooped the award to become the first English winner since Michael Owen in 2001.

He said: “I think my wife would prefer to know and my family, it’s very stressful for everyone.

“I can see why they don’t tell people. They want everyone to go, all the big names there and there will be more people watching it if they don’t know, so I can understand why.

“From my point of view, of course I’d love to know to just kind of see and not have to wait throughout the whole night.

“But it is their decision, I can’t control that. We’ll have to just enjoy it and try not to stress out too much.”

Kane did not appear to let the uncertainty impact him on Wednesday night.

The striker scored a penalty and assisted Bayern Munich’s opening goal as they drew 2-2 with Arsenal in the Champions League.

The Three Lions skipper has already scored 10 goals for the German champions this season in 11 games.

It carries on Kane’s fine performances from last season, when he scored an incredible 73 goals for club and country.

That form has made the 33-year-old the favourite to win the Ballon d’Or, but he faces strong competition.

Lamine Yamal and his Spain team-mate Rodri are rivals for the award, as are Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi.

Kane said: “I try not to think about it. Obviously it is hard not to.

“There are always rumours and stuff flying around so you try to stay away from it.

“We have important games to play and I know we have another important one on Sunday before the event on Monday so that’s where my focus is.

“Of course I am going to try and enjoy Monday night as much as possible. It is a big occasion, a big event so we will have to wait and see.”
