The last few weeks have seen a lot of speculation regarding the situation of Marc-Andre Ter Stegen at Barcelona. Club officials have been left furious with the actions of the 33-year-old, and as such, the decision was taken this week to open disciplinary proceedings against him, which has also resulted in him losing his position as captain – for the time being at least.
Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick made it clear to Ter Stegen that he is not in his plans for the upcoming season, and on the back of this, the Germany international took the decision to undergo surgery on a recurring back problem. Upon making his decision, he announced that he’s be out for three months, which went against the Catalans’ vision that he’d be sidelines for at least four – which would mean that his salary could be used to register Joan Garcia as his replacement.
Because of this, and the fact that Ter Stegen has refused to sign off on the medical report drawn up by Barcelona, tensions have grown, which has led to these disciplinary proceedings. But now, the man himself has broken his silence, releasing a statement on social media.
“These past few months have been particularly difficult for me, both physically and personally. Like any player, after suffering an injury, my sole priority has always been to return to the pitch as soon as possible, motivated only by the desire to help the team and do what I love most: compete.
“In recent weeks, many things have been said about me – some of them entirely unfounded. Therefore, I feel it is necessary to express my version of events respectfully, yet clearly.
“The decision to undergo surgery was made after consultation with medical professionals and fully approved by the Club, and always with the intention of prioritising my health and long-term sporting career which of course are fully aligned with those of FCB to have myself available on the pitch as soon as possible to keep winning trophies. Moreover, I announced publicly the minimum recovery timing that I shall need after that, which had been communicated to me by most reputed experts and always in coordination with the Club.
“I would also like to clarify – in light of certain speculation – that all of the Club’s signings and contract renewals were completed prior to my surgery, and therefore, at no point could I consider that my unfortunate circumstances with the new surgery I had to undergo would be necessary for the registration of other colleagues whom I greatly respect and look forward to share locker room with for many seasons. Any alternative interpretation seems both unfair and inaccurate to me.
“Throughout my career, I have always tried to conduct myself with professionalism, respect, and commitment towards the badges I have represented. I have a deep affection for FC Barcelona, this city, and its supporters, who have stood by me for so many years. My commitment to these colours remains absolute.
“I understand that difficult moments can generate tension, but I trust that, through dialogue and responsibility, we can resolve this situation constructively. I am fully willing to collaborate with the Club’s management to resolve this matter and to provide the requested authorisation.
“A lot may have changed, but one thing will never will; I love you Culers.”

You have lost all the respect in eyes of culers. Your horrible performances are the reason of our downfall. Please pack your bag and leave if you love barcelona as you say. Not my legend you were never a top keeper.
and his excellent performance give your team her 2nd brag about treble, if not that your team would have been almost two decades without a Champions League title so give him some appreciations and start to equally blame Laporta for countless lies about the club finances.

I love your decision, Ter! Everything the management thinks of is profit, but when it comes to the other party, they expect them to show loyalty. Is there loyalty in business? Do you expect a player to terminate his contract when the team has a huge share in his transfer fees? I guess NO! This is totally unfair to both parties. Everyone who plays for a team deserves the respect from the team in terms of contractual obligations and they need to abide by it.
He doesn’t have any problem with his contract. If he already has a contract, why do the team want him to negotiate? You can not be in a space where you have labor hugely to maintain and someone look you in the face and say they don’t need you. Is that a fair treatment for someone of his capabilities— knowing he’s injured? I guess you don’t understand this! If he dare leave, his career is dead! Are you going to accept such treatment from someone you sacrificed your career for? I guess no! Let Barca do the right thing!!!

How do you know that all club's signings and contract renewals were completed when you're not deco, flick, and laporta? Your love and admiration for culers are fading away gradually, if not rapidly. Why do you set and announce the timeline for your recovery with no approval from the club medical team?
He’s is literally there. lol who do you think you are thinking you know better ? lol

What's wrong with you guys n continuous talk of contract termination? Where have you read that? They need to sell him why will they want the expensive way, while they can make more of on him. Like you said there's no loyalty in business, so if you think you have better offers elsewhere you tell the team you want to go, n they sell you. You don't force yourself where you don't want to be n then try to strong-arm them anybody will snap

Wow doesn’t take much for Culers to lose respect. He was there when Barca was at their worst. He took Laportas “pay cut” which was only ever deferred payments.

Mac-Andre ter Stegen is not absolutely wrong with his decision. If the coach has said he is not in his plans, then use whoever is in your plans and leave ter Stegen alone in peace

He entered Barcelona a healthy athlete, if the club wants him out, he has to leave healthy. You can't make him the sacrificial lamb forcefully, especially when this injury he sustained, was at the time he represented Barcelona
