English winger Rio Ngumoha is only 16 years old, but he has been putting in remarkable performances in Liverpool's pre-season games. He has collected two goals and two assists in four matches and shone in Monday's clash with Athletic Bilbao, helping a youthful Liverpool side to a 4-1 win.

Ngumoha arrived at Anfield last summer from their rivals, Chelsea. He made his first-team debut on 11 January 2025 in an FA Cup third-round match at home to Accrington Stanley. At the age of 16 years and 135 days, he became the youngest starter in the club's history.

He wouldn't add any more first-team starts in the rest of the season, but he has been given an opportunity by coach Arne Slote in pre-season, and he repaid the trust brilliantly. He recorded an assist against AC Milan, scored a goal against Yokohama and had a goal and assist against Athletic Bilbao on Monday.

He opened the scoring in the second minute when he dragged the ball from the middle of the pitch in front of the sixteen-yard box and placed a shot towards the right post to split the net.

Three minutes later, his header down set up Darwin Nunez for the second goal. He left the pitch in the 67th minute to a huge applause from the crowd. "Rio is doing great things in all the games," Slot praised his performance for the club's website.

Liverpool played two games against Bilbao on Monday, with Ngumoha starting in a mostly youthful lineup in the first match alongside Nunez, Alexis Mac Allister and Harvey Elliott.

In the second match, the Reds won 3-2, and new signings Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike featured in attack along with Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo. Summer reinforcements Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong were also on the flanks of the defence.
