'Footballers are an easy target!': Dani Carvajal calls for national protection after home robbery

Dani Carvajal claims that 'football players are an easy target' for criminals after the Real Madrid star was the latest victim of a string of home break-ins.

The Spanish full-back revealed that three men armed with iron bars tried to attack his residence in Boadilla del Monte at 2 a.m. local time on Tuesday morning, but 'they couldn't because of the security system'.

With the incident coming so shortly after Chelsea's new signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang suffered a broken jaw from a home robbery, Carvajal has called for national protection for the players.

Speaking to Sálvame, Carvajal said: 'They tried to access the house and they couldn't because of the security system. They were looking where they could access, but everything was closed. The security system did its job well.

'It was a big scare, but thank God we weren't at home and nothing happened' and that 'it's the first time this has happened to me and I hope it's the last.

'The investigation is in the hands of the Civil Guard and hopefully they can find them as soon as possible.'

'Football players are an easy target. They know when we play and when we don't. Hopefully the State Security Bodies can lend us a hand in this regard, since we are clear targets for them [assailants]', said the Real Madrid footballer.

The 30-year-old recalled that 'there was a barrage of robberies a couple of years ago. Many colleagues entered the house' and stressed that 'there have been colleagues who are having a really bad time' - which could draw reference to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The Gabonese international, who has just penned a two-year deal with Chelsea, suffered a broken jaw after being struck on the chin with an iron bar during a terrifying robbery at his family home.

Aubameyang was reportedly assaulted by a group of four men and threatened with firearms and iron bars in front of his wife Alysha Behague and their two terrified children in the early hours of Monday morning.

Before sealing a transfer to west London, Barcelona moved Aubameyang and his family into a five-star hotel in the city and offered them psychological counselling following the ordeal.

The thieves escaped with jewels after Aubameyang was forced to open a safe within the property in Castelldefels, a coastal town south of Barcelona.

Aubameyang, 33, was struck on the chin with an iron bar, while Behague suffered a blow to the head, but they decided initially against hospital treatment in order not to further frighten their kids.
