'I'm burning his shirt': Utd fans vent over news that Ronaldo joins City

Manchester United fans are far from pleased to hear that their former star Cristiano Ronaldo has agreed personal terms with Manchester City.

The 36-year-old has reportedly spoken with Pep Guardiola and it is believed Juventus have entered into negotiations with the Premier League champions about letting Ronaldo leave.

Manchester City fans are delighted with the news, while the Manchester United supporters have been left feeling 'angry', 'betrayed' and 'shocked' by the decision.

Ronaldo started his professional career at Sporting Lisbon but developed into the world class players he is today at Manchester United.

Sir Alex Ferguson saw Ronaldo's potential from an early age - buying him as largely unknown player for £12.24m in 2003. He worked closely with the striker developing his skills before handing him his debut against Bolton at Old Trafford.

Ronaldo grabbed the attention of the fans with his stunning 30-minute performance - before going on to score eight goals in 39 appearances that season.

CR7 scored some stunning goals at Old Trafford during his career at the club and helped the Red Devils pick up several trophies before departing for Real Madrid in a deal worth £80m - making him the world's most expensive player.

United fans always believed Ronaldo would return to Manchester, but they never believed it would be for Guardiola's side.

As a result, they have taken to social media to vent their frustration. Many have described the move as the 'worst' thing that could happen to them.

One supporter Tweeted saying: 'If Ronaldo does actually go to Man City words won't be able to describe how devastated I will be.'

Another added: 'Ronaldo going to Man City is a gut punch. Doesn’t matter how many years since he left United. This isn’t on par with Figo going from Barca to Madrid, but it’s like Owen going from Liverpool to United.'

Others took to Twitter to say that Ronaldo moving to City would actually 'break their hearts' and that such a move was 'unthinkable'.

Meanwhile, several fans demonstrated their anger by saying they would 'burn' their Ronaldo shirts if the Portuguese international joined the club over the road.

Some even questioned Ronaldo's thought process behind the move, saying: 'Ronaldo can never play for Barcelona because of his relationship with Madrid. If he can play for city then he doesn't rate Man united and doesn't deserve the love from Manchester United supporters.'

However, those who don't support United took to Twitter to write: 'Ronaldo ends up at Man City it’ll be hilarious on the basis that United fans have been treating him like he’s just nipped down the shop for bread & milk for the last 12 years.'
