'I'm very happy here in Milan' – Modric shuts down rumours of Madrid return

Luka Modric has shut down any rumours linking him with a move back to Real Madrid, insisting that he is "very happy here in Milan".

The Croatian midfielder joined the Rossoneri on a free transfer ahead of the 2025-26 campaign after 13 seasons with Los Blancos in the Spanish top-flight.

Modric made 394 LaLiga appearances with Madrid, scoring 30 goals and providing 63 assists as he won four league titles during his time in the Spanish capital.

He also won six Champions League titles with Madrid, forming a strong midfield partnership with Casemiro and Toni Kroos under the leadership of Zinedine Zidane and Carlo Ancelotti.

Modric, who also won the Ballon d'Or in 2018, closed out his Madrid career at last summer's Club World Cup and has since become an important part of Milan's midfield.

Milan head coach Massimiliano Allegri has also been linked with the Madrid role, though Modric insisted he has no intention of leaving Italy.

"Allegri and I in Real Madrid? The rumours are always there, but I'm not interested in them," said the former Tottenham man.

"I'm very happy here in Milan."

Only Manuel Locatelli (1,749) has completed more passes in Serie A this season than Modric (1,603), who has a pass accuracy of 90.7%.

He also impressed during the Rossoneri's win over rivals Inter on Sunday, registering the most touches (77), successful passes (57), and tackles won (two) for his side.
