Rio Ferdinand has told Cristiano Ronaldo that his 'love affair' at Manchester United is now officially over after snippets of his interview with Piers Morgan were released on Sunday.
In a bombshell chat with the Talk TV presenter, Ronaldo claimed that he had 'no respect' for Erik ten Hag because as the United coach has 'no respect' for him. The 37-year-old also went on to slam the appointment of Ralf Rangnick last season and Wayne Rooney who has criticised Ronaldo for his behaviour at the club.
Ronaldo claimed that Rooney was probably making those comments through professional jealousy because the Portuguese forward is still playing at a high level. Addressing the interview and what happens next for his ex-teammate at Old Trafford, Ferdinand said on Vibe with Five that Ronaldo's position at the club now seems untenable.
"If Man United are trying to cling onto anything from the era before, that’s one of the things that they will lean on," the former centre-back began. "Like I said before, I played with players [Ruud] Van Nistelrooy, [Roy] Keane, [David] Beckham, before I was there Jaap Stam, all players the manager booted out of the football club because he said they were players who thought they were bigger than the football club at the time, for different reasons. All of them reasons, were reasons we haven’t seen today.
"Wazza has come out and said a few things about him, he’s well within his rights to do that. Cristiano has taken offence to them and mentioned them in his interview, as mates you want to see it done behind closed doors.
"It is what it is now and I don’t think they’ll be sending each other Christmas cards. Wazza will be on another list, custard pies everywhere.
"I’m quite clear with the situation, Cristiano Ronaldo, it’s over. The love affair with Man United is finished, the books been closed and I don’t see him playing again.
"One thing that happens and Cristiano is well aware, if you insult the manager who is building the project, there’s no way back so he’s snookered the club and put them into a position where there’s no way back whether anyone wanted to keep Cristiano, they can’t now after what he’s said.
"If that interview was two minutes long and not however long the interview is and he’s said that comment there that he doesn’t respect the manager regardless of anything else that was said, that will be the reason he goes." Although some of the interview has already been published, the full conversation between Ronaldo and Morgan will air in two parts on Wednesday and Thursday at 8pm on Talk TV.

I’m holding nothing back. It’s my right as a United fan. PACK YOUR BAGS AND GET OUT! What insolence. Who does he think he is? Cristiano has just done the worst interview anyone football legend can do and he won’t get away with that. Spoiling long years of great play. Sad 😒
