The Wales international has faced plenty of criticism in the Spanish capital this season, but he will not be running away from the Santiago Bernabeu
Jonathan Barnett believes Madrid fans would be wise to remember as much, with Bale having contributed significantly to the success of the club in recent seasons.
He believes those efforts are being unfairly overlooked during a testing campaign for all concerned, with one of the finest players on the planet becoming a scapegoat for those who should be grateful for his presence.
Barnett told Sky Sports: "This generation of Real fans will be talking about Gareth's goals for years to come. Frankly, they should be ashamed of themselves.
"Gareth deserves the greatest of respect. The way Real fans have treated him is nothing short of a disgrace."
Bale was jeered from the field on his most recent outing for Madrid.
He was drafted back into Santiago Solari’s starting line-up for a Clasico clash with Barcelona on Saturday, but lasted just 61 minutes.
Real were already trailing 1-0 when he was replaced by Marco Asensio and would go on to suffer defeat by that scoreline to their arch-rivals.
Bale contributed little while on the pitch, but the same could be said for many of those around him.
He has contributed 15 goals to the Madrid cause this season, including a hat-trick against Kashima Antlers during another successful Club World Cup campaign.
His outings have taken him past 100 strikes for the club, and 200 appearances, but intense speculation continues to surround his future amid talk of a possible Premier League return this summer for the former Tottenham man.
Barnett has moved on a regular basis to quash such talk, but his latest comments are likely to have done little to dampen the exit speculation in Spain.

What has bale done this season? He just made high comments regarding playing as unit and is failing to perform. The fact that because of him we lost Ancelotti and Zidane makes us criticize him even more. Well, see how isco was supported by Bernabeu in classico. You need to be on your top notch or you even have to try to earn respect. What he has done will forever be remembered but Bale is the shadow of what he was. We backed him before but its enough now.

Bale said RM a better team without CR7. He always thought CR7 is overshadowing him. So, why he is not proving it? Why chances are not being converted into goals now? Midfield is excatly the same.. He thought he'll be Hero after CR7.. It's not easy... RM fans are too demanding...He should have known this atleast after all these years. #HalaMadrid

Yeah we know. Madrid fans are the WORST. They dont know how to act. They behave as if they have amnesia towards Bale who has given so much over the years. I would want him to leave because at the end of the day its going to make them weaker and we would see them less of a threat. Thats the truth. Bale is a great player. Not a good one but a great one who needs a team to support him. Not like some ungrateful team like Real Madrid. Imagine seeing some fans saying that they dont need Cristiano Ronaldo when he was leaving. As i said THE WORST. They know it too. They just dont care. I dont speak for every single individual, but i speak for most.

I agree that bale isn't in a good form right now but he really does deserve a little respect for his contributions to madrid especially in big games in the champions league. To be honest I don't think bale should stay at Madrid after this season he is a great player with speed and power but he isn't just the right replacement for ronaldo. He gets injured too often and sometimes looks like he is lacking confidence. Sometimes a team is not just for you maybe if bale comes back to the premier league he might just be able to find his best form again. Madrid need players with confidence to be able to match barca and it's a gradual process but they will be there at the top again they always find a way back to the top. Hala Madrid

Here is the big difference between Real Madrid and Barça. Remember Raul, Morientes, Fernando Hierro, and ever the famous Iker Kasias. How bad the Real staff and the fans treat them. When you can't the 100 percent on the field you must get away. They don't want you in Real Madrid. It's a shame for a Madrid. guys the fact is that bale as a person is tire just how u see modric ,krose,casemero Marcelo &all the members of the three cl win in row are tired guys let us be realistic, real need to sign new players and remove Perez in order to real to florish again. Like I said I m a barca fan,but was really surprised at the results best out of four that Madrid was not able to win one I think this is the first time that the king of Europe that we are proud of should be like this,but real fans should not treat them like this they should appreciate them for what they have done in the passed n will give them more strength to fight back to their best form but if it continue like this trust me Ajax game second leg in the CL will be difficult to overcome, so all they do is to Cheer their team to victory or else that little team Ajax is very dangerous they are capable of upsetting the European big gun

Seriously I think Bale is his own enemy, how could a player spend more than 5 years in a country and can't even speak their language, and am sure he didn't even make an effort to learn or socialize ,yes he has given Madrid some memorable moment but Madrid have given him more, so he shouldn't blame anybody for the hatred being shown to him, He didn't give them love so he shouldn't expect love from them period

It's real Madrid's DNA. They forget very easily who their hero was. They booed Raul, Casillas, Zidane(as player), CR7, Marcelo and many great players that they had. So doing this to Bale is no news. Barca fans don't do that. They don't boo their great players. Real fans should learn from Barca.

that is what you get when you say you perform better than the best player in the world. this guy thinks he was bought at a higher price so he can control Madrid. and to bale agent we fan can't look at the past to justify the present the past is gone and will not come back again what we are looking at now is the future and it's not looking bright. Perez should act fast reduce his release clause and sell him cos he is not better than anybody.

He us an agent so we will not blame him much. He wanted to be the main man and he is given the opportunity but look at the abysmal performance he been putting up. To a extent that your team can't jubilate with u when he scores. He has been flop of the match in the two el clasicos. The should advice his client and stop those unnecessary comments.

these real Madrid fans are funny/terrible, they are all biased, in fact I think Spain in general are very partial in the way they treat foreigners. this same ronaldo some of them are making noise today, moaning for his departure, these same fans use to boo him, almost all the time and to my opinion I think to an extent it's coz he was a foreigner coz in the days of Raul and the other Spanish Co's and even presently with the majority of Spanish players in the team, when these players underperformed, the fans will hardly boo them and even when they do, it will not be extended, see the recent case of isco, he was booed, and unlike bale who stayed quiet , isco decided to react instanta against the fans on the pitch, but then it has quickly been forgotten but if it was another player especially a foreigner, it would've been story day in day out, same case with benzema and the others. it's a shame on these fans, I mean some not all in Spain, coz a case like barça, for instance, the fans will hardly boo messi, I doubt if they have done that if they have ever done that even though there have been records of boos on other barca foreign players too, so I think the real fans, Spanish fans & the league in general should learn from their past mistakes and appreciate those they have before they lose them again and they should treat all the players the same foreign or local in terms of support.

Every player thinks they are better than Messi and CR7 after scoring 10 or 20 goals per season.. Let me remind them even Messinaldo's worst season is still a dream for many best strikers in the world..
