Atalanta hero Josip Ilicic beats Jan Oblak to be named Champions League Player of the Week.
The veteran forward scored 4 goals in Atalanta's 4-3 win over Valencia to book their first-ever last 8 spot.
Moreover, Ilicic is the first Slovenian to score a UCL hat-trick - they are the 35th different nation to record a hat-trick - and the oldest player to score an away UCL hat-trick aged 32 years 41 days overtaking Ibrahimovic.
Congratulations, Josip!

Even though he scored 4, 2 of them were penalties and Atalanta were comfortably on the lead. Without Oblak, Liverpool would have scored 4,5 goals. I think he deserved it more. Anyway Congrats! 4 goal isn’t easy to score in a UCL game.

Oblak saved the day for Athletico. He saved more than 6 possible goals from Liverpool.

Well deserved. He is such an underrated 1 of the best in Europe. Him and Gomez have a great partnership and he has everything needed from a forward. I hope Atalanta at least make semis....

His compatriot, Oblak was sensational himself against the European champions but Iličić did something nobody else has done before. First to score 4 goals in an away knockout game and becoming the oldest away hattrick scorer in the competition deserves recognition. Oblak probably displayed a goalkeeper's equivalent of Iličić's performance at one of the most intimidating stadiums in a game where the stakes were much, much higher. So a valid case can be made for him as well. Respect to Oblak, but Iličić's unique achievement earns my approval of this UCL POTW decision
