91 points! Liverpool equal Man United's best ever Premier League season

Liverpool may not have enough to win the Premier League title this season but they will at least be able to claim some bragging rights over Manchester United.

A resounding 5-0 win over Huddersfield on Friday night saw them equal their great rivals' best ever Premier League return of 91 points.

Sir Alex Ferguson's side set that record back in 1999-2000 as they claimed the second of three successive league titles.

That side was considered one of Ferguson's best, a year after their memorable treble triumph.

The vintage of David Beckham, Dwight Yorke and Paul Scholes claimed the title with four games still to play after victory over Southampton on April 22.

Despite their 13 Premier League titles United only twice surpassed the 90-point mark, reaching 90 in 2008-09 having gone one better in 2000.

But Jurgen Klopp's 2018-19 Liverpool vintage can still go clear of that 91-point mark, having now equalled it with two games left to play.

The Reds face Newcastle and Wolves in their final two Premier League games of the season as they go toe-to-toe with Manchester City for this year's crown.

Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah scored twice during a five-star performance at Anfield after Naby Keita got the ball rolling inside the first 15 seconds.

Liverpool can still reach 97 points with victories in their final two games, which would make that total either the second or third highest points haul in Premier League history.

City are still projected to reach 98 if they take maximum points from their final three games of the campaign against Burnley, Leicester and Brighton.

They go to Turf Moor on Sunday in their bid to regain top spot in the table.
