'A new Rodrygo is born' –Real Madrid forward optimistic after successful surgery

Real Madrid have confirmed that Rodrygo has undergone successful surgery on his right knee.

The Brazilian forward suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury during Los Blancos' 1-0 defeat to Getafe earlier this month, ruling him out for the remainder of the season.

Rodrygo will also miss this summer's 2026 World Cup, which begins on June 11.

The 25-year-old has directly contributed to just four goals (one goal, three assists) in 19 LaLiga games this term after struggling for minutes during Xabi Alonso's tenure earlier in the campaign.

He scored and assisted once in five Champions League games during the league phase, with Madrid now facing Manchester City in the last 16.

Real Madrid released a statement that said: "Our player Rodrygo has successfully undergone surgery for the ruptures of the anterior cruciate ligament and the external meniscus of his right leg.

"The operation was performed by Dr. Manuel Leyes under the supervision of the Real Madrid Medical Services.

"Rodrygo will begin his rehabilitation work in the coming days."

Rodrygo is set to be sidelined for up to eight months, but the forward is feeling optimistic after his successful surgery.

He said on social media: "Today a new story begins.

"A new Rodrygo is born... I am ready to go through this whole process and experience God's blessings in my life.

"Very grateful for every kind message."
