AF Flops of the Year: Dembele, Ozil & 5 Utd players included, Emery as manager

  /  Geralt

2019 has been a fruitful year for football, while some players amazed the world, some unfortunately would be remembered for their poor displays. Here, All Football pick a squad for Flops of the Year!

Eleven starters are included with a manager and seven substitutes, and you can pick a captain for the Flops of the Year team below!

GK: David de Gea (Man Utd)

Once the outstanding goalkeeper in the Premier League, David de Gea's form for Manchester United is under scrutiny after errors.

We just hope that he can recover and have his confidence back as soon as possible.

DF: Ashley Young (Man Utd)

It’s embarrassing to watch a professional footballer flop with such disregard to sportsmanship and etiquette.

His route into the team is set to be blocked by Wan-Bissaka, Luke Shaw, Diogo Dalot and Brandon Williams.

DF: Shkodran Mustafi (Arsenal)

That there is, a rather cruel, 10-minute montage of Mustafi’s mistakes doing the rounds speaks volumes.

The Arsenal defender has too often proved a defensive liability, typified by his hopeless display.

Mistake after mistake, many of them inexcusable at the top level, led to his reputation being shattered.

DF: Nicolas Otamendi (Man City)

Recent performances have seen him exposed at times and at fault for goals City have conceded.

Now is the time for Otamendi to lead his own rehabilitation and remind us of the player who won back to back league titles.

DF: Jerome Boateng (Bayern)

Boateng was once hailed as one of the best in the world, but not in 2019 at least - and sometimes he is benched at Bayern Munich.

Maybe Bayern would be wise to sell him while he still has name value and can get the club a semi-decent transfer fee.

MF: Andreas Pereira (Man Utd)

Andreas Pereira, an attacking midfielder who isn’t good at attacking.

But just because a player is known for their defensive abilities from the number 10 role doesn’t mean he’s good defensively.

MF: Jesse Lingard (Man Utd)

Lingard remains a constant presence in Solskjaer's starting XI but failing to score a goal or provide an assist all year.

For a player who turns 27, is there really the time for him to turn it around?

MF: Mesut Ozil (Arsenal)

It is quite obvious he will never reach his peak again and with £350,000-a-week burning through the Gunners coffers.

FW: Alexis Sanchez (Inter & Man Utd)

A FREE signing. What could possibly go wrong?

Well, throwing £505,000-a-week down the drain and struggling to sell him due to his wages, that's what.

Sanchez scored three - just THREE - goals during his 18 months at Old Trafford... and won't play for Inter again until February due to injury.

FW: Kryzsztof Piatek (Milan)

Piatek scored 11 goals after joining from Genoa in January. But in the new regime, he might not be so successful.

The Polish international has scored just three times in 12 appearances, and his lack of form in front of goal is a contributing factor to Milan's woeful start in Serie A.

FW: Ousmane Dembele (Barcelona)

He is just 22 years old but his career is being ruined by injuries.

Dembele hasn’t been a consistent presence during his Barcelona career and he’s quickly becoming one of the biggest wasted talents in the modern era.

Coach: Unai Emery (Arsenal)

Well... who else?

He let Ramsey leave, spent €80m on Pepe, can not speak English fluently, lost the Europa League final... and finally was sacked from his position last month following a prolonged run of bad form.

Good Ebening.

Subs

Kepa (Chelsea), Calabria (Milan), Piszczek (Dortmund), Khedira (Juventus), Xhaka (Arsenal), Insigne (Napoli), Jovic (Frankfurt & Real Madrid).
