AS: RM youth academy should prioritize developing players for the team over selling for profit

Spain's 2026 World Cup squad has been announced, with no Real Madrid players making the cut. AS stated that Real Madrid should return to its roots of developing talent for practical use, rather than solely profiting from selling players.

The report stated that de la Fuente's final training squad inevitably could not satisfy everyone, but most fans have expressed approval of this result.

The outside world originally estimated that the squad would retain many veterans to reward players for past contributions. This final squad includes 16 players from the previous European Championship-winning lineup. Although players like Yamal, Merino, and Nico Williams are recovering from injuries and are not in optimal form, de la Fuente still chose to call them up, believing there were no more suitable alternatives at the moment.

The coach made this risky decision because the team's real challenges will begin with the third group stage match against Uruguay. Against Cape Verde and Saudi Arabia, Spain is confident of winning, regardless of whether the main lineup plays or if players not initially selected are used. This squad selection can be considered reasonable and appropriate.

This squad also aligns with the players' current competitive form. Joan García is currently the best-performing goalkeeper in Spain. Eric Garcia and Marc Pubill, thanks to their excellent performance at the end of the season, displaced the declining Le Normand and Huijsen, successfully making the squad.

In this tournament's Spanish squad, first-team players from Real Madrid are absent, which is a first in the team's history. Only Llorente and Víctor Muñoz, both from Real Madrid's youth academy, were selected. Real Madrid should now confront its internal issues.
