Aaron Ramsey's future at Arsenal is in doubt after he was dropped by Unai Emery for the defeat by Chelsea.
It is understood the decision not to start him at Stamford Bridge was in part because Emery was dissatisfied with the 27-year-old's display in the opening-day defeat by Manchester City.
A key player during the Arsene Wenger era, Ramsey was taken off against City after 54 minutes.
And there is growing uncertainty over the role Ramsey will play for Emery during the Spaniard's first season in charge at the Emirates Stadium.
With France Under 20 midfielder Matteo Guendouzi impressing during the opening weeks of the season after joining from Lorient and fellow signing Lucas Torreira working his way to full match fitness, Ramsey could find it difficult to hold down a place this season.
Switzerland international Granit Xhaka has started both of Arsenal's games this season.
Team-mates were surprised by Emery's decision to drop Ramsey given his importance to the team in recent years, while the player himself won't have been happy about his omission.
But the former Paris Saint- Germain boss is keen to change Arsenal's style and wants as much mobility in his midfield as possible, which could leave Ramsey vulnerable.
Mesut Ozil's substitution against Chelsea further points to the desire to have high energy in the centre of the park.
Emery said of his decision to take off the German: 'He works well, but we needed to keep more pressing on the pitch.'
All this comes at a time when Ramsey is talking to the Gunners about extending his contract after a decade in North London.
His deal expires at the end of the season, at which point he could leave as a free agent.
If a deal cannot be agreed before the end of the year, Arsenal may consider selling the former Cardiff man in January to recoup some sort of fee.
Manchester United and Chelsea both hold an interest in the midfielder.
Ramsey earns in the region of £110,000 a week and will expect a significant pay rise if he does sign a new contract at Arsenal.
However, he could earn in excess of £200,000 a week if he leaves for nothing at the end of the season.

So would you say Ozil deserves 300k a week since we're playing stupid here

I agree with a lot of these comments, only remember the agent will be the one driving this not Ramsey. It's about time the FA addressed the agents-Nymar and Pogba are just two recent examples.

Jordan, if I were you, I would totally ignore him. He is more than pathetic! He is more of a "notice me" personality, always thinks he knows more than the rest. Like the other commenter pointed out, the green and red arrows will show who needs to disappear from this earth.

Sami Mokbel bored at work again. Please stop making up fake news, it's boring and your boring. It's called rotation, and no player will play every game this season.

Non story. Yet again 'sources' used. He's carried an injury in pre season. Probably not ready for 90 minutes. Fake news.

I wouldn't mind him leaving. The same Arsenal fans who complain of average players complain louder when we dell them. Swap him for Martial.

Biggest mistake of Arsenal summer was not selling Ramsey and replace him with the World Cup winner Nzozi. I hope they don't regret this

Emery would not be bullied like wenger and give them big contracts like what Walcot did, he can move on, who cares, have forgotten even walcot played for Arsenal. where would he be playing for chelsea? as Dailymail is saying chelsea wants him?

A lot of these players, xhaka, Ramsey, mustafi, bellerin, are mediocre at best, sell them and buy world class proven players who will add steel to the team, not play out of position, make poor challenges, lose the ball or dribble into trouble

Under Wenger the "star" names were guaranteed starters regardless of their underwhelming performance. Hopefully, under Emery, he will have no such favour and drop them (not rest) if they aren't up to scratch. Long overdue.

The problem is he can't play no. 10. He is only good at making his runs from central midfield and surprising defenders.

whats the point of waiting 11 months for him to leave on a free, causing problems off the pitch. RELEASE HIM NOW!!!!

I am quite surprised by all this. Ramsey always seemed 100% commited and not one to draw things out. I feel the club definitely doesnt handle things like this well and making Ramsey one of the club captains when he has 11 months on his contract is bizare. Ramsey should take this season as a opportunity to take the CAM role off ozil and show why he deserves 200k contract over ozil because frankly ozil is spectacular but Ramsey definitely gets more goals and not many less assists and would certainly play the high pressing game better than mesut. Whatever the case he shouldn't start until the contract is sorted because we don't need this over our heads all season.

Should've sold him before season commencement and replaced with Nzonzi. I will gladly take some rock in Arsenal midfield over Xhaka & Ramsey..

I think Ramsey and oxil should use this season to show their leadership qualities or be dropped for good. One thing Arsenal is lacking right now is a leader in the field..

All Arsenal's players should now realise if Emery is supposed to be the good manager the press say's he is that no one is now has a guaranteed place in the side or starting or even in the club. Ramsey may be in the line up next game but I doubt if Xhaka, Mustafi or Ozil will be at least starting. Others like Bellerin and Mkhitaryan also have to look to their laurels. This manager must act early to stop the the culture of automatic selection AW had for lazy players.

I do feel some sympathy for Emery, three players that you would consider to be the better players in the squad, Özil, Xhaka and Ramsey have all become liabilities. They are all the best examples of the dross that Wenger left behind. I know we¿re in for a few hard years, but Ramsey et al need to be move down on.

I swear some Arsenal fans have lost their minds...they sit here still blaming Wenger...like we ever going to see this coach get any money to invest. Get real and wake up Arsenal spent 50 million on 5 players...Man City bought on player for 60 million...Everton bought one for 40 million so did WHU...Man United..one player 50 million.. Liverpool spent 170 million. Now for a club the size of Arsenal this ownership has up shopping in the basement...why do you think anything will change? We will continue to buy young players and mediocre players..and this manager will end up walking or made the scapegoat. Kroenke has ruined a great football club. We will not even be competing for the odd FA Cups anymore under these leaches

Ramsey should play for Leicester/Everton. That is his level. He had one amazing season but aside from that he has been just above average. Time to sell and upgrade.

No way can Arsenal meet Ramsey salary demands, he has been great. But in the last couple of years, he is inconsistent, plays his own game, very individualistic, never plays in position. Unfortunately he is a typical Wenger prima Donna, wants the money, will not do the dirty work. The new 19 year old French kid is far better and a team player. I would like Ramsey to stay, but on Arsenals terms.

Wenger and Pep Guardiola is the only coach for now to manage Arsenal without big Star players, I don't know why Arsenal is always stingy to sign top players, if they don't have money to buy players let them sale the club to Dangote let's see how it goes from there. am a Chelsea fan but I like Arsenal style of play.
Did I see u mentioned Guadiola name, Guadiola wouldn't manage a club like Arsenal without making huge signings. He is a money spending Coach.

i think the reason for emery dropped him is to try to find a balance in the team. emery is still new and he is trying to figure it out the team and good position..the balance, position, tactical and technical is not easy for manager

They both were standing on the line... so they both have their jobs on the line... With two or more defeat, then shall Emery know what we mean by standing on the line and putting one's job on the line...

the coach needs to look at other options if we are to be successful mustafi, bellerin, and Pop is not the great in defense whereas we can't give other defenders a shot, just a few options
