Michael Carrick has been announced as the new Middlesborough manager as he has finally been named as the replacement for Chris Wilder.

The appointment comes after 16 years after he made his debut for Manchester United, where he would go on to become a club legend by winning nearly every trophy possible and making 464 appearances for the club.

He made his debut as a substitute in United's win over Charlton in 2006, alongside the likes of Edwin Van der Sar, Rio Ferdinand and Ryan Giggs, but where are they all now?

Goalkeeper: Edwin Van der Sar

The Dutch goalkeeper is currently the chief executive of Eredivisie giants Ajax and has been in the role since 2016 after he was promoted from being the club's marketing director.

Left-back: Wes Brown

The defender retired from playing in 2018 at the Indian Super League club Kerala Blasters.

Centre-back: Rio Ferdinand

The Englishman retired from playing in 2015 after leaving QPR and now often appears as a pundit on television during Premier League and European football matches.

Centre-back: Mikael Silvestre

The French defender was a director of football at Ligue 1 club Rennes after retiring, but more recently launched Talent Lyfe, an agency to represent athletes and young talent in sports.

Left-back: Patrice Evra

The full-back like Ferdinand is often on screen as a pundit during Manchester United fixtures. Earlier this year he was a participant on the BBC's Freeze the Fear with Wim Hof.

Right-midfield: Cristiano Ronaldo

The Portuguese winger has gone to become one of the best players in the world and is currently playing for te Red Devils after spells with Real Madrid and Juventus.

Central-midfield: John O'Shea

The Irishman is currently a coach at Championship side Stoke City, he has also coached at Reading and at the Republic of Ireland U21s team.

Central-midfield: Darren Fletcher

The midfielder aspired to be a manager after retiring in 2019, but after coaching for a year, he is now the technical director at Manchester United and has been since 2021.

Left-midfield: Park Ji-sung

The South Korean midfielder is still working in football and was named the technical director of K-League 1 side Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors. When he took the role he admitted that he wants to bring European culture into Korean football.

Attacking midfield: Ryan Giggs

The retired Welsh midfielder is currently facing a retrial over charges of causing actual bodily harm as well as coercive and controlling behaviour towards Kate Greville and common assault towards Emma Greville, he has denied the charges.

Striker: Louis Saha

The striker in the game, Saha retired from football in 2013 and created a private network for pro athletes and entertainers called AxisStars he has also written a book titled Thinking outside the box.
