Matthijs de Ligt is not in the Ajax training camp as he is “awaiting a possible transfer” to Juventus, confirmed the Dutch club.
He was expected to miss out on the journey to Austria today, but the statement on the Ajax website made clear the reasoning behind it.
“Awaiting a possible transfer, Matthijs de Ligt does not travel with the group” of 28 players.
It comes after multiple sources including De Telegraaf, Sky Sport Italia and more all announced Juventus had agreed terms with Ajax worth in the region of €70m plus bonuses.
There are also suggestions agent Mino Raiola will make up to €10m in commission.
The defender, who turns 20 next month, is expected in Turin over the next 48 hours to have a medical and sign the five-year contract.
Including performance-related bonuses, that salary is expected to reach €12m per year.
