Former Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold has struggled for form at Real Madrid but could be handed a major boost in the summer
Trent Alexander-Arnold could receive a significant boost to his Real Madrid career this summer, with the club reportedly preparing to offload one of his main rivals for a starting berth. The full-back completed his switch from Liverpool to Real Madrid last summer, as his contract at Anfield expired.
The Reds did secure a fee of approximately £10 million, after allowing the player to complete his move in time for last summer's Club World Cup. Alexander-Arnold featured for Real Madrid in the tournament after completing the transfer.
The 27-year-old's introduction to life at Real Madrid has not been as seamless as he might have expected. Two separate injuries have curtailed his playing time, and he has been rotated in and out of the starting XI.
He has also faced some criticism for his displays when starting matches. His defensive capabilities are the aspect that has attracted the most scrutiny.
However, he could receive a lift this summer, with BILD reporting that Real are poised to complete a major overhaul of their squad during the summer transfer window. The shake-up would see as many as six players depart.

One of those is reported to be legendary right-back Dani Carvajal. The 34-year-old is Alexander-Arnold's main competition in the squad, with the Spaniard selected ahead of him for the weekend's La Liga fixture against Elche.
A potential exit of Carvajal could provide Alexander-Arnold with the opportunity to establish himself as the primary right-back at the Bernabeu. A series of regular starts could potentially help him to find the form from his time at Liverpool, which earned him the transfer in the first place.
Other players reportedly on Real Madrid's sale list include defenders David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger, left-backs Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia, as well as midfielder Eduardo Camavinga.
Real Madrid and Alexander-Arnold return to action on Tuesday evening as they face Man City in the second leg of their Champions League round-of-16 encounter at the Etihad Stadium
The Spanish titans carry a 3-0 lead from last week's first leg courtesy of Federico Valverde's first-half hat-trick.
Alexander-Arnold was in the starting line-up for the first leg before being substituted for Carvajal with six minutes of normal time remaining.
