Alphonso Davies' Canadian national team shirt is no longer available on the national team website following a dispute between the governing body and the player's agent.
TSN's Rick Westhead reported Friday Davies' agent Nick Huoseh informed sportswear retailer Fanatics, who run the Maple Leafs' online store, late last month that they no longer had permission to sell his jersey.
The reasoning is said to be grounded in the fact that Soccer Canada has not struck an accord over the right to market Davies' image, name and likeness.
In August, Huoseh rejected a Soccer Canada proposal for a Gatorade advert, advising the governing body that Davies would only be involved in advertising his image with companies who had personal deals.
The 21-year-old has partnerships with Nike and Bank of Montreal.
'National team players have never received royalties from jersey sales, and they should,' Huoseh told TSN. 'We only want what's fair and they absolutely can and should do this.'
DailyMail.com has reached out to Huoseh's agency and has not yet received a response.
Davies isn't the only player currently uninvolved with marketing for the national team.
The Canada Men's National Soccer Team Players Association hired a sports marketing firm and have since informed Canada Soccer should not use the likeness of any national team player without negotiating permission.
Meanwhile, the federation has insisted it can use group images of the players due to 'historical precedence.'
With a World Cup less than one month away, the situation is hardly ideal preparation for a governing body which should be celebrating and maximizing opportunity ahead of its first World Cup in 36 years.
'It's tragic. We are strangling ourselves,' said a Canada Soccer source who anonymously spoke to TSN.
'Sponsors are paying millions for deals to align with Canada Soccer and are being told they can't use the most marketable players in their ads.
'There's a complete breakdown in our partner and sponsor ecosystem… While no one is walking away yet, no one is happy about this, either.'
Canada's men's football team refused to play a match in June against Panama amid strained labor negotiations with the nation's governing body, as players seek to level match fees and share World Cup prize money with the women's team.
