The secrets of Tottenham’s season are set to be revealed in a new Amazon Prime documentary being lined up for broadcast next summer.
Sportsmail has learned that Tottenham, who have suffered a turbulent start to this campaign, are in advanced talks over a lucrative deal that would involve them giving unrivalled access over the remainder of the season to Amazon, who are eager to produce another documentary to follow their first live broadcasts of Premier League matches in December.
Their first Premier League fly-on-the-wall production with Manchester City last season was well received and Tottenham have been approached to feature in a second one.
Sources with knowledge of Amazon’s proposal, however, have told Sportsmail that the concept is slightly different to the intense focus on City’s Premier League-winning season that formed the bulk of All or Nothing.
In addition to narrating the travails of Mauricio Pochettino’s squad in minute detail throughout the season the documentary will also focus on the building of their new stadium, its impact on the local community in north London and the club’s growing relationship with the NFL, who will stage two regular season games at Tottenham for the next 10 years.
The Chicago Bears and Oakland Raiders will have historic first use of the retractable NFL pitch on Sunday week, with the Carolina Panthers and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers meeting there seven days later.
Amazon are hoping the NFL angle will broaden the documentary’s appeal to a US audience. The technology giant appears determined to become big players in the Premier League and has won the rights to broadcast two rounds of fixtures for the next three years.
They will stream, live and exclusive on Prime Video, the 10 midweek games on December 3-5 and the Christmas holiday games on December 26-27.
While the multi-million pound contract to the club has yet to be signed and filming has not begun, Tottenham’s players have been told about the project and Pochettino has given his blessing.
Camera crews will be given access to the dressing room before and after games plus opportunities to film training and inside the boardroom, usually off limits due to chairman Daniel Levy’s preference for secrecy.
Amazon’s timing for creating a dramatic documentary could not be better given Spurs’ difficult start to the season, which has exposed lingering tension between Pochettino and some of his players and ongoing issues in his relationship with Levy.
Since their Champions League final defeat to Liverpool in June they have only won two out of eight matches this season — and only one since the opening day — leading Pochettino to complain that there were ‘different agendas’ in his squad following the Carabao Cup defeat by Colchester on Tuesday.
Pochettino has been frank about feeling let down by Levy in the transfer market this summer, and it will be fascinating to discover if he continues to be open when filming begins.
