Ruben Amorim apologised for a ‘disaster season’ as Manchester United’s head coach, but promised that better times are around the corner.

The United boss made good on his promise to say sorry to supporters after the last game at home at home to Aston Villa, which United won with goals from Amad Diallo and a Christian Eriksen penalty on his final appearance.

And having warned the club that ‘the storm was coming’ shortly after his arrival – a prophecy that came painfully true – Amorim struck a more positive note as he addressed fans on the pitch by vowing to bring happier times back to the club.

‘First of all I want to apologise for this season,’ said the 40-year-old after taking the mic.

‘I know you are very disappointed with me and with the team. I want secondly to say thank you. We are very grateful for your support during the season.

‘Now we have to make a choice or we stay stuck in the past because this season is in the past. We fight each other or we stick together and move forward.

‘Six months ago in my first three games in charge, with two victories and one draw, I said the storm is coming. Today after this disaster season I want to tell you the good days are coming.

‘If there is one club that prove in the past that can overcome any situation any disaster it is our club it is Manchester United.

‘Now I want to say also to my players, sometimes I was not fair but I try always to be honest to you guys. Thank you very much, see you next season.’
