Manchester United have one game left of their worst-ever Premier League season and boss Ruben Amorim acknowledges how bad it's been and insists things can only get better
Ruben Amorim insists he is HAPPY he took charge of Manchester United this season - despite initially wanting to wait until the summer to replace Erik ten Hag.
United's campaign has been an unmitigated disaster. The Red Devils last roll of the dice in Wednesday night's Europa League final fell flat with a 1-0 defeat to Tottenham in Bilbao, ensuring no back door entry into next season's Champions League.
Amorim has overseen the club's fall to 16th in the Premier League ahead of Sunday's final match of the season against Aston Villa at Old Trafford and in the aftermath of the loss to Spurs at San Mames offered to walk away from the club without compensation if the United hierarchy wanted him to go.
However, the Portuguese retains the faith of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and club chiefs and is set to oversee a major rebuild at the club this summer. Having missed out on Β£100million in revenue from getting back to European football's top competition with their Basque country horror show, the club's new-found financial reality means EVERY PLAYER is available for transfer if the price is right.
But speaking at his pre-match press conference on Saturday, Amorim insists that the mistakes that have been made during 2024-25 will NOT be repeated next term.
"In this moment I am really glad we arrived six months before we started a new season," said the United boss. "I think we will avoid a lot of mistakes in the next season. Now is the time we can use all that suffering to change things in the summer.
"It is not just the players. There are a lot of things to change. We have suffered a lot but I am really glad I arrived six months ago because it will help me in the next season. We have this game against Villa and we need to focus on that, it is not over. We want to finish in a good way in front of our supporters.
"Then after we will assess the squad. We know what we want to do. We will deal with that when the season is finished."
And on the struggles of the current campaign, Amorim insisted: "I will not try to convince you otherwise, itβs been a tough season, but we had that hope we could win something and that could help us to finish the season in a different way.
"The way we can get up is to focus on the next game, to finish in a good way. When you start thinking about the future and the squad, a new season is going to start, and we will start with new ambitions and try to do better.
"I think these six months were really hard, a lot of changes, not just for me, but for all of the club. We did so many changes inside the club, sometimes it takes like five years or three years to change all the personnel and a lot of things. We changed coach in the middle of the season and we changed the way we play.
"It was a really tough season. Now it's the part we need to enjoy, to focus on the future and be positive. We know what to do, I know how I want to play, that is clear. With all the mistakes you guys point to me, I know how I want to play and that is the exciting moment we can change something."

Just cannot understand all the negative comments. Spoken as if you know football better than those Licensed and qualified coaches. RA is a qualified coach. So too was ETH and all those who have tried but failed, dating all the way back to 2013. Does that mean those coaches are all bad. I was a UNITED fan since 1977 and have seen all the ups and downs. But for the fact that its UNITED, Manchester United with all the richness in it's history and being the best supported club in the world, I am proud to still be a UNITED fan. Life's has got it's ups and downs, it's a vicious cycle. We were good in the 50s/60s but Munich robbed us of GREATNESS. Then came the period of lows in the 70s/90s. It took us 26 years to be back to our prime. Now, it's our lows again since 2013. Like it's 12 years now. We went through 26 years of lows and enjoyed more than 2 decades of glory. So, the bottom line is....Win, Lose, Draw, we stay UNITED. Thats a true mark of a UNITED Fan.

sad to say this team doesn't seem like it will be fixed, perhaps when the Glazers departure is confirmed but as long as they're apart the club it will forever be a graveyard πͺ¦

Can United possibly beat Villa that is pursuing CL football? Pray that it won't be a heavy defeat for United. Good ebening is a better coach. United should have hired him.

I believe what I have watched in amorim game so far this season is that the players let him down just like they did to the person who sign them and some where over hype and then they see them selves above the team.... Dorgu and heaven were the only signing made by Amorim and you can see in those guyz that they really want to improve....

guys we are busy criticizing him but when we head that his coming to united as our new couch we where praising him what needed at man u is fans first we talk to much and criticizing to much success don't come in a blink of an eye let give him time to start his rubuild and see where we end cause if by any chance we return to European football next season we wil again start praising him so fans first let try to be quiet and see the rebuild that's when we wil know if he as failed united or not secondly player busy demanding for pay raise but they are failing to play normal game let them go if it means the whole club I am okay with it moreover if we look the way man u is playing he are at least dominating games only lucking goals so give Amron time he wi change united like he did to sporting

What are we now hearing? We were before the Europa League final that, lose or win, Man U will not sack Amorim but now we're hearing they wanted him to leave without compensation? Amorim must prepare his things, I can see that, even if he stays, he can be sacked before next Christmas if the results haven't improved much.

i wonder what those castigating this guy, wanted him to do, he took over a worst team with a worst set of players just six months ago and you're expecting him to perform miracles to bring the club to best in the world not even one of the best, even sir alex Ferguson never did that at the beginning of his coaching tenure within 6 months.

Who is advising this FAKE SIR, so-called SIR Jim Ratcliffe? If a club is underperforming,do you sack the coach or fire all the players? Which one is easier to replace: 11 players or 1 coach? This unkempt, shaggy octogenarian invested in the wrong hobby. He'd better join the likes of Elon musk in taking the rich to space or manufacturing electric vehicles.π€π€π€π€π€
