The latest Manchester United news as Manchester Evening News readers give their verdict on what Ruben Amorim should do with Kobbie Mainoo after Casemiro's red card.
Young Manchester United star Kobbie Mainoo is yet to make a Premier League start under Ruben Amorim this season, but he is refusing to give up as he chases a place in the first eleven. Some fans in the Manchester Evening News comments section believe that Amorim should take notice of the midfielder's positive response.
The England international has fallen down the pecking order during Amorim's time at United, with the Portuguese boss settling on a preferred midfield duo of Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro. Speaking about Mainoo's struggle to get into the team, Amorim said that he was now in direct competition with Fernandes, who will be very difficult to displace as the captain.
The Manchester Evening News understands that Mainoo has responded positively since being denied a loan move during the summer transfer window. He is determined to claim a spot in the starting lineup and the England squad again, working hard at Carrington and with a private coach during the international break.
He has even hired a new chef at home to improve his game. Mainoo could get an opportunity to show what he can do in the near future due to Casemiro's suspension following a red card against Chelsea on Saturday, though Manuel Ugarte is another potential midfield option for Amorim to consider amid a midfield selection dilemma.
Some fans hope the best is yet to come from Mainoo. Reader Jungle Jerry says: "Let's be honest here. Mainoo hasn't set the stage on fire since the end of last season. Amorim is right to challenge Mainoo to do even better.
"Mainoo has to reinvent himself as a deep-lying playmaker. To be like Pirlo, Alonso, or a modern-day Rodri. He needs to learn how to connect play, control the tempo, and create goal-scoring opportunities for the forwards. Having the knack to score goals would help too.We use your sign-up to provide content in ways you've consented to and improve our understanding of you. "The ball is in Mainoo's court now and it does look like he's made the right decision. Only time will tell if he has improved on himself to be the first name on the line up sheet."
Commenter ExLimey writes: "Mainoo got caught out with a manager swap & an injury, he has to knuckle down and man up now, and prove to himself he can compete at his highest level. It would be a massive mistake for both club and player if he's allowed to leave. There is maybe a world-class player in him, and where best to prove that first?"
Trouble6 says: "Well, that is the sort of attitude we want and need from young players. Committed to the club and wanting to play for it. Unlike some, who get dropped for a game and go off in a huff and ask to leave."Redscot agrees: "Well said. With a positive attitude, good things normally come to those who wait. Much better than sulking and going into a strop like some of those who have left this summer."
Amorim must now respond to Mainoo's commitment, says Indo: "To think that training is the only way for a player to improve is absurd. Only minutes on the pitch can improve a player. I saw Donny van de Beek going down in his performances when he was not afforded regular playing time. He never reached the level he had at Ajax, because of the little regular playing time.

"Put Mainoo in as a defensive midfielder and explain what is going to be expected of him. Only then can he expand his skills to become an all-round player. Why is it okay not to play Bruno in his preferred position, but not for Mainoo? At the same time, Bruno needs time to rest, and it would be good to have Mainoo take on some more playing time."
Garth123 writes: "I dont think there is any doubt about Kobbie's playing ability, professional prowess, and his hard work and commitment. The doubt I have, is whether he is a good fit in Amorim's system. Simply put, if Amorim keeps playing Bruno in midfield then Kobbie will not get a start.
"The only time I could see perhaps a chink of light for him is if Bruno leaves the club next summer for warmer climes, and a new midfield could be built around Kobbie. I cannot honestly say having a minor role this season will satisfy Kobbie enough for him to stay for the rest of the season."

Kobbie is slow… he needs to work on his pace…thats the reality
and some united fans want to coach to start mainoo quickly forgetting what happen last term against when mainoo start against Bournemouth we lost 3 :0, against Brighton we lost 3:1 against Aston villa when he and eriksen start it was united worst ever game I have seen then recently he start against Griesby where our midfield was out run by a championship team and some people still still see mainoo as a world class talent who should be starting games for united just because he come on as a substitute and change games occasionally all we see from mainoo is one good game as a sub then we have to wait again until 3 month .

Before Amorim, Kobbie was playing and scoring goals, since the arrival of Amorim, Mainoo his not good enough, and some of the players left for luck of game time after the arrival of Amorim they play full time also the Amorim style of play 3-4-3 it's not working, maybe it needs time for the players to adjust to it, even Bruno his not so effective on his new role Kobbie his not getting playing time, He should move on to where he will play
it was always one good game in 2 or 3 month

kobie mainoo is too slow and lacks the pace and athletism to cover ground or close down opponent players making it difficult for him to thrive in a 3:4:3 system that demand high intensity and relentless pressing he need to be more combative and learn to play with more intensity cos at the moment all we see is one good game as a substitute in 2-3 months then he goes flat he has no passing range, and lacks the Athletism to dominate and influence games at the highest level as a starter last season the coach started him against Brighton and Bournemouth then this season against Griesby I watches unknown players press and win the ball and move it in a pacy manner while mainoo retract jugs and stroll back instead of pressing and forcing them back and we allow opposition to pass the ball comfortably toward our half and the most annoying part is that mainoo is demanding a £200 per week pay. despite having one of the worst recovery runs in the league he will need a partner that is much quicker which at the moment we don't have .

You should understand what I’m talking about,Amorim came in when United are ready to make a lot of changes, implementing some rules and discipline for everyone, some players will adapt while some will need to leave, a lot has been happening in this club n I don’t think we will overlook them n put the blames on the manager only, the formation might not be favorable to some players which is normal in football but as player you fight n try all your possible best to show the coach you can adapt to whatever role not some crying baby looking for sympathy.
Maino was right to push for a loan. Amorim is not just straight with the boy. When the gaffer does not like you, the best thing to do is to walk away. Bruh ,we did this same thing with ETH and it cost us a lot. If there’s no change with what Amorim is doing now Man Utd will keep sinking further.

You still don’t get it . He is not doing well at all at Man Utd. Until he changes the downward spiral of win percentage at the club , he is the worst we have ever had at Man Utd

The fact is things has never been right in United, you guys should stop being hypocrites and stop putting the blames on Amorim, Maino should improve on his position so he can get a playing time.

Amorim will play who he wants to and not give in to pressure from the same people who will blame him when things go wrong. The English always expect their players to start even when they are not good enough. Reputation means nothing when here and now the player has problems.

how can he regain form if he's not playing? look against Man City when he came in he holds the ball and had complete pass more than Ugarte
In terms of passes give it to him,I love him and I need him to play,if he’s performing the way we knew him to perform Man U will not be struggling now because we lack a good defensive midfielder Casimero has experience but not as strong as Mainoo or baleba,Amorim is only using Casimero because of his experience,if he should get the kind of midfielder he’s looking for now you will see the way he will drop Casimero ,the only thing lacking in Amorim’s pattern of play is a midfielder with the charisma of Baleba just add it to Amorim’s squad and you will be amazed at how good our performance will be.

Guys lets be honest! fernandes is being played in a role he doesnt prefer.Allow him play like he did against chelsea and the whole world will see the real Bruno we brought from sporting Lisbon.Kobbie isnt yet comparable to fernandes coz the englishman is too slow in that role.infact if it were possible united should ask Brighton for a swap with Baleba and thats when uniteds midfield will be settled knowing that we have a real replacement for casemiro.kobbie is a fanstastic midfielder but uniteds midfield needs a pacey midfielder with an eye for goal.

He’s ahead of ugarti,Mainoo has lost form, every player you see in the pitch have their own assignment given by the coach and if they keep failing their assignments the coach will loose faith in them and stop featuring them that is the case with Mainoo, but Amorim can’t come out to say it,mind you the way we fans see and watch football is different from the way coaches watch football
