Ruben Amorim has been handed his first obstacle as Man United boss as reports claim that he will be given a reduced budget to work with at the club.
The Portuguese boss has been in Manchester this week as he adapts to his new job, having taken over the role of head coach from Erik ten Hag who was sacked.
He has been snapped meeting some of his players at Carrington and taking in the sights of the city while the majority of his players have been away playing for their countries.
While rumours have circulated that Amorim could be keen to bring some of his former Sporting stars to Old Trafford, it now appears that will not be the case.
According to The Telegraph, Amorim will be handed a reduced budget ahead of the January window after the Red Devils' lucrative summer spending under Ten Hag.
During the summer, the Dutchman brought in the likes of Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, Joshua Zirkzee and Manuel Ugarte in a spending spree that exceeded £200million.
The outlet claim that United chiefs are hopeful Amorim can get the best out of the the squad, as the club aim to end the damaging and costly cycle of mass overhauls.
In particular, club chiefs are hopeful that the new boss will maximise the potential of Rasmus Hojlund and Mason Mount - who have struggled to find their best form.
Both players arrived in Manchester in summer 2023. Danish striker Hojlund has been involved heavily but has just 18 goals to show for it thus far.
Meanwhile Mount has made just 26 appearances for the Red Devils, providing just one goal and one assist after his £60million move from rivals Chelsea.
Mail Sport revealed earlier this month that United are considering cutting the budget they hand to their disabled supporters’ association in half.
As part of a wide range of cost-saving measures, the £40,000-a-year given to MUDSA has been targeted.
While no final decision is thought to have been made, United are reluctantly considering what may prove to be a highly controversial move.
Following the arrival of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS in January, officials set about identifying areas of the business where savings could be made.
Should officials decide to go ahead with the reduction, it may well be met with a hostile response from supporters after the Premier League giants’ announced record revenues of £661.755m in June.
United are unlikely to be particularly active in the January transfer window unless an opportunity presents itself, players leave or injuries or other factors create a problem that has to be addressed.
Amorim's first game as United boss will see him take on Ipswich Town on Sunday afternoon, as he looks to help the Red Devils rise from 13th in the league table.
The Tractor Boys could pose a troubling task for Amorim after they picked up their first win of the league campaign in their visit to Tottenham before the break.

I do not think Man United needs to make any January signings. Perhaps if the new manager can stick with the current squad and with the addition of some academy graduates, he will be able to balance his team until the next summer transfer.
No money due to incredible bad buys from ETH

we need a good striker who can hunt the opponent, have skills and creative abilities with good finishing
Yes, that's right, but I do not think we will be able to have such a prolific striker in January.
