Manchester United are sweating over the fitness of Benjamin Sesko after the striker suffered a knee injury in the 2-2 draw with Tottenham on Saturday
Manchester United have been told that bringing in a new striker this month will come at a hefty price, with suggestions that their focus should shift to other areas of the squad following concerns over Benjamin Sesko's injury. The Slovenian forward picked up a knock during Saturday's 2-2 draw with Tottenham, being forced off after 85 minutes having only entered the fray shortly before the hour mark.
Speaking to reporters afterwards, Ruben Amorim confirmed the injury involved Sesko's knee. "We have to check. He had something in his knee, let's see," the United manager said.
"I have no idea. Because it's the knee, we never know. I'm more concerned with an injury because it's in the knee and I don't know. We need Ben to be a better team."
The blow has turned United's attention firmly towards the January market, with the club possibly requiring reinforcements up front should Sesko face a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Adding to the setback, Amorim will also be without Bryan Mbeumo, Amad and Noussair Mazraoui owing to next month's Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
"We have to check everything, we have to check what has happened with Ben," Amorim continued. "Of course, we are going to have a problem there [with AFCON], but we already knew.
"But let's see when the window is open, if we can improve the team and try to prepare something that happened. Until then, we have to take the chance."
Addressing the situation on Sky Sports' Sunday Supplement, journalist Jonathan Northcroft argued that United ought to focus on bolstering their midfield options, pointing out that bringing in a fresh striker would prove 'expensive.'
He also revealed: "I was in the press conference and [Ruben] Amorim, as he was leaving the room, he was asked about Sesko's injury so he didn't have time to give a full answer. And he just said 'I'm worried', because when it's the knee, it could be anything."
After Amorim suggested during his press conference that the club could buy him 'more midfielders,' Northcroft claimed that would be 'more pressing' for them than signing a new attacker.
He went on to explain that United's long-standing issues have centred around midfield 'for years', describing the situation as 'substandard.'

MU still have Zirkzee & Chico Obi, why have to buy another expensive attacker? Bring in another young striker from MU academy.. train them & bring them in for few minutes of the game. AFCON coming and this is the opportunity for Mainoo & the rest of the unused players to show their talent. Jan window will never give us the good players with the right price. Even Wirtz cost £100m+ also didn’t benefit Liverpool.
you said it all but Amorim is acting dumb

I have defended Amorim saaaaaaa, I'm even tired now. Now I can admit with all certainty that Amorim is 50% of United problem. as at now, no one knows Unted first 11 a exactly a year now.

unless someone has never played football, on the pitch we work as a team that is why you will find a so called defender scoring more than some stickers. what does that mean; when you are on the pitch it's every player's collective responsibility to do what is necessary for the team to win. Therefore with or without Ben we shall always move forward as we pray for his quick recovery because we really need him. Only a layman can't see that when you have a striker on the pitch it gives other players also chances to score as defenders will be marking him. Manchester united is number one this season.

At least United did well not to loose fir 5 games, augurs well for the team. United will beat Everton to move top 4 after international break. Todays results in PL do favor United staying 8th with 5 teams locking on same points.
