An unnamed Manchester United player googled who Ralf Rangnick was when he was appointed as the club's boss until the end of the season, according to reports.

Veteran tactician Rangnick was hired to take over from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after his sacking following the limp defeat by Watford, but has struggled to make an impact.

Indeed, United suffered their first loss under him after losing at home to Wolves, with the new manager suffering from dressing room splits and a toxic mood.

And, kick-starting the change of management in bizarre style, one member of the squad was forced to take to the internet to learn all about their new coach.

That is according to ESPN, with the same outlet adding that there may have been more players who flocked to the search engine, although this wasn't confirmed.

There is understood to be a divided team at Old Trafford, with several stars keen to leave this month due to frustration over their lack of game time this campaign.

As reported last night by Sportsmail, the likes of Anthony Martial, Edinson Cavani, Donny van de Beek and Dean Henderson looked to escape through the exit door.

Under Solskjaer and Rangnick, this fringe group have remained bemused over why they have not been handed more minutes despite United's woes.

As for the interim manager, it is believed he is a cooler, more distant figure than his predecessor, although there is still frustration felt over his team selections.

Sportsmail has also learned that the mood at Carrington is 'oppressive', with half of the squad said to be disgruntled with their current situations.

Their senior members have spoken openly about this being the 'worst group and atmosphere they can remember', with the cohort split up into cliques.

But following the first real setback of his short-term tenure, Rangnick has remained detached, and is happy to leave his coaches to attempt to lift the mood.

He will be keen for them to do just that, with United back in action against Aston Villa in the FA Cup on January 10.
