Ancelotti: Until 26th, I remain Real Madrid’s manager

Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti has officially confirmed that he will take over the Brazilian national team after the current season ends. During today’s pre-match press conference ahead of the La Liga clash with Mallorca, he expressed his deep affection for the club and responded to media inquiries.

What kind of match do you expect?

The final few matches are always intense. We’re missing several key players, but we’ll try to field a competitive team and win all three remaining games. La Liga isn’t over yet. We don’t want to hand over the title—we want to finish the season strongly after a tough year.

How are you feeling right now?

From May 26, I’ll be the head coach of Brazil—a huge challenge. But for now, I’m still Real Madrid’s coach, and I want to finish this chapter well and give a fitting end to this wonderful adventure. I know everyone’s curious about my future, but right now my focus is on my remaining days here. Out of respect for the club and the fans, I’m dedicating myself to this final stretch.

Why make the announcement now?

Because the Brazilian Football Confederation released a statement. Starting from the 26th of this month, I will be Brazil’s head coach.

Real Madrid hasn’t made an official announcement. Are you surprised?

Real Madrid can release a statement whenever they want—that’s not an issue. I don’t know when they will make it official. The club will speak when they feel the time is right. I have nothing to add.

When did you find out you wouldn’t be staying?

That’s a personal matter, something discussed between me and the club.

Why do you think you can’t stay one more season?

Football, like life, is made of chapters that begin and end. I always knew this would end one day. A beautiful period is coming to a close. I’ve enjoyed it, but all things in life eventually end—even life itself—so how could a football spell be any different? I’ve had a great time, and I want to end it with dignity. On the 26th, I’ll talk about the new challenge. I’ve never had any problems with the club and never will. This club is in my heart, and even when this journey ends, it will remain there. The farewell is near—we’ve won many titles in these years, and I’ll never forget this incredible ride.

Why was the Brazilian FA in such a hurry to make it official?

Everyone does things their own way.

How do you feel about the end of this “honeymoon” period? Are you disappointed?

Not at all. If someone had told me on the day I arrived that I’d win 11 trophies in the next four years, I would’ve signed on without hesitation. This season had its challenges, but it’s been an unforgettable time.

Do you have any advice for Xabi Alonso?

I like him a lot. I don’t need to give him any advice—he already has everything needed to become a great coach in the future.

What will the final two weeks be like?

I know exactly what to expect—prepare for the next matches. On the 26th, I’ll have a new job. I’ll think about it then.

When did you start doubting your continuation at the club?

You should just look at the facts—I’ll be coaching until the 25th. I realized that yesterday.

A few years ago, Florentino Pérez said he spoiled the players. Do you think you’ve done the same?

Do you mean I didn’t whip them into shape? No, I don’t think I spoiled them.

Any regrets?

None. I want to enjoy the last 15 days. I’ve done everything I could—our trophies prove that.

You’ve signed with five-time world champions Brazil, but you don’t seem very happy.

No, I’m very happy. But during a press conference, I need to explain things I’d rather not—because until the 25th, I’m still working for Real Madrid. Out of respect for this shirt, I want to maintain that respect until the very end. I want to win La Liga and the Champions League. But yes—I’m very happy.

Do you think it’s the right time to leave?

I’ve never felt that Real Madrid didn’t want me. Even after I join Brazil on the 25th, Real Madrid will still love me. The club has always treated me with affection. Of course, I can’t be Madrid coach forever. Maybe the club needs a new spark. I don’t see this as a tragedy. I’m deeply thankful. Our story continues—I’ll always be a Madridista. This chapter is ending, but it was wonderful. I never imagined I’d coach Madrid for six years—but it happened.

What’s going on with Rodrygo?

Rodrygo had a fever recently, so he hasn’t been at his best. Today he felt discomfort during training—I’m not sure which leg. He’s still recovering from illness, which has sparked a lot of speculation. People care about him—especially me.

Any final thoughts?

Anything is possible. It’s just time for a change, that’s all. I see this as normal. Ending things now was a joint decision.

How is Rodrygo feeling emotionally?

When players aren’t feeling well physically, they’re not in the best spirits either. He wants to help the team—completely understandable.

How do you think fans see you?

We’ve shared so many unforgettable comebacks—I believe the fans won’t forget those moments.

Some fans are unhappy you negotiated with Brazil while still coaching Real Madrid.

I respect everyone’s opinion. That’s part of football—just like press conferences. Sometimes you have to deal with things you’d rather avoid. But no, I’m not upset.
