ANDRE ONANA could still have a future at Manchester United despite joining Turkish side Trabzonspor on loan for the 2025-26 season.

Onana has hinted at a long-term future in Manchester and has decided against relocating his family to Turkey.

The 29-year-old's entire family will remain in Manchester while he moves to Turkey for the duration of his loan.

The Cameroonian’s children will continue to live in Manchester and, despite reports of a fallout with the coach, SunSport understands he left United with the blessing of manager Amorim, who believes Onana could benefit from a fresh start.

Onana's wife, who traveled with him to Turkey, is scheduled to return to Manchester this week and will only visit occasionally.

The troubled goalkeeper reportedly wants to maintain a small circle in Turkey and focus solely on his football.

He still has two years remaining on his current contract at Manchester United and was initially approached by Galatasaray earlier in the summer, but Red Devils chiefs rejected the offer.

However, later in the transfer window, United’s plans changed following the signing of Senne Lammens, making the club more open to Onana's temporary exit.

At that point, only two transfer windows remained open in Europe - Turkey and Russia - and Onana managed to negotiate an impressive pay package for his year away from Old Trafford.

SunSport's sources close to the player say he is determined to rebuild his reputation this season.

He was even named Man of the Match on his debut against Fenerbahce at the weekend - despite making a huge howler.

The 29-year-old initially struggled in the game, failing to hold on to a low shot to gift the hosts the lead but recovered well to put in a strong performance as 10-man Trabzonspor fell to defeat against Fenerbahce.

Onana made eight saves and, despite his early error, was still named Man of the Match.

Sources in Manchester have told SunSport that a series of high-profile errors have hurt his reputation despite generally playing well in the two years he was at the club.

A public spat with Nemanja Matic, a close friend of David De Gea, who described him as "the worst goalkeeper in the history of Manchester United," was also seen as unhelpful.

As things stand, Onana will hope a year in Turkey helps restore his confidence.

Both Onana and Trabzonspor will hope that he can build on his debut display when he makes his home debut next weekend against Gaziantep.
