Andrich sees scope for improvement as Leverkusen close in on DFB-Pokal final

Bayer Leverkusen must sharpen up if they are to reach the DFB-Pokal final, so says Robert Andrich.

Leverkusen beat St. Pauli 3-0 on Tuesday to book their place in the last four of Germany's domestic cup competition.

Kasper Hjulmand's team only had eight shots at BayArena, but were extremely clinical, getting four of those on target.

Martin Terrier and Patrik Schick put Leverkusen in control, before Jonas Hofmann added further gloss in second-half stoppage time.

But Andrich felt Leverkusen's display left plenty to be desired.

He told ZDF: "St. Pauli didn't have the quality to pose a threat to us today. Even though we really didn't play well.

"In the cup, it's all about going through to the next round, though, and we've done that. We have one more game to go and then we're back in Berlin.

"If you look at the details, there's still room for improvement. We need to make more of our opportunities."

For the first time in the club's history, Leverkusen, who won the trophy in 2024, have reached the semi-finals of the DFB-Cup for a third successive season.

Hjulmand added: "At half-time, we said we had to invest more and take up better positions and it was much better after that.

"We were very effective and are happy with the 3-0 win. To be in with a chance of winning something is important for us as a team.

"We're in the semi-finals now and have the chance to go to Berlin in May."
