Under-fire referee Anthony Taylor had to be escorted through a crowd of furious Roma supporters and into a room by airport police in Budapest after they raged at his performance during their Europa League final defeat.
The Italian side lost on penalties to Sevilla after the full-blooded showdown was sent the distance, Paulo Dybala's first-half strike having been cancelled out by Gianluca Mancini's own goal, condemning Jose Mourinho to his first European final defeat.
Mourinho was left raging long after the final whistle at the Puskas Arena and savaged Taylor's officiating as 'bull***' before waiting in the car park and labelling him a 'f***ing disgrace'.
Taylor was tasked with overseeing a feisty affair and brandished 14 yellow cards to Roma and Sevilla players, the most ever shown in one Europa League tie.
He also made several contentious decisions, having awarded Sevilla a penalty before overturning his call and denied Roma a spot-kick for a potential handball.
And the anger has continued to sweep across the club, with a large group of Roma supporters directing their rage squarely at Taylor after he was spotted in the airport.
Disturbing footage posted on social media shows groups chanting angrily in Taylor's direction, forcing police officers to hurriedly usher him into a private room.
In one video, the person holding the camera appeared to grab Taylor's backpack.
As the 44-year-old was led to safety, pockets of fans argued amongst themselves, with police appealing for calm after a chair was launched inside the terminal.
Another angle shows Taylor edging through the crowd, potentially surrounded by his family. One supporter clad in a white t-shirt steps forward to shout in the official's face with his phone aloft, before a member of Taylor's party shoves him away.
Liquid is then sprayed in their direction, coating a man. Eventually, the group were hurried through the door, with one officer catching the flying chair in mid-air.

Roma loss that match they should blame morinho for removing all his key 🔑 players knowing there’ll be Peñalty shootout, The players that took the penalty lack confidence No Abraham no dybala no Matic and so on how do you expect to win 🥇 The penalty they are fighting for is not even a penalty it’s ball ⚽️ to hand 🤚 that’s what the law said Antony Taylor didn’t ruin the match he even overturned Sevilla’s clear penalty which he has the power to give It a penalty between two teams and one lose so no panicking

Some of this comment are baseless, am sure a lot of people here, didn’t watch the match. Yes English ref makes a lot of errors. But for this final, the ref didn’t do anything bad. He was fair, think of it, if it was Roma that was awarded that penalty, keep in mind that there was a minimum contact from the Roma player, I believe mourinho would have said that’s the reason they lost the match. The handball isn’t a penalty judging by the law of the game. The Sevilla player hands was in a natural position. Even the commentators said that’s the clearest ball to hand you could ever see in a football match. Mourinho and Roma fans are just being pathetic. The ref didn’t influence the game, or was the ref the reason they scored an own goal or miss the penalties.

we Manchester United friends have been complaining the whole season about referee Anthony Taylor. we complained and nobody backed us so now you can feel the pain he is being a disgrace the whole season if you could remember. our game with Chelsea at first he was the one to officiate the game but I felt like not going to watch the game, fortunately they changed to Michael Oliver who is my best ref in the world. Anthony Taylor should be banned whereas Roma fans complain, Sevilla should also complain. I tell you the truth if Roma won the Europa League Sevilla fans would still complain because Anthony Taylor was making mistakes both ways. I disagree with his referring actions
