According to Mundo Deportivo, Araujo traveled to Madrid for quick treatment due to a minor calf muscle injury, aiming to be fit for the match against Spain.

Barcelona defender Araujo, 27, has been included in the Uruguay national team's World Cup squad. He flew from Montevideo to Madrid on Sunday night due to a minor calf muscle injury that required "quick treatment."

The Uruguayan Football Association announced the news, stating that Araujo's plan was to return to Uruguay last night and then fly to Playa del Carmen, Mexico, tonight (local time), which will be the training camp location for Bielsa's Uruguayan team.

The injury update for Araujo released by the Uruguayan Football Association on Sunday night read: "To help resolve muscle discomfort, the player will receive medical treatment from a specialist who has previously treated him. The coaching staff and the medical department of the Uruguayan Football Association have agreed to this decision. He will not participate in team activities on Monday and will join full team training on Tuesday the 9th, with the team departing that night for the 2026 FIFA World Cup."

It was initially expected that Araujo would go to Barcelona, but he ultimately went to the clinic of a well-known physiotherapist in the Spanish capital. In communication with the medical teams of Barcelona and the Uruguayan Football Association, the Uruguayan center-back received treatment aimed at shortening the recovery time of his muscle injury, so that he could be available to Bielsa as soon as possible.

However, the Uruguayan Football Association stated that the goal is for the Barcelona captain to be available for the national team coach in the match against Spain in the early hours of June 26-27 local time.
